Portable Dvd Players - dvd player, portable dvd players

This is a great compact and light dvd player for the price. I was in the market for an inexpensive portable dvd player for my 2-year-old son. I also have the TFDVD7008, but my son kept touching the inside of the player that dvds don't play properly anymore. However, because I liked it so much, I decided to buy another one. I can't comment on all the technical features because I basically use it to play my son's favorite dvds, but I like that it's small, compact, and light. I can fit it in my bag and take it with me wherever I go. The battery life is about 4 hours, which is plenty! I like that it has a rubber grip on the bottom, so the player doesn't slide around on a table (the 7008 didn't have that). I only wish there was a menu button on the player itself and not just on the remote because I don't really use the remote. I also wish there was a way to store the remote in the player itself. That would be nice. Other than that, I really like this dvd player. Coby TFDVD7009 7-Inch Portable DVD/CD/MP3 Player (Black)

I felt skeptical about the brand COBY which I always thought was a low quality brand. The design of the DVD player is kind of ugly and the screen is small. But I give this product 5 stars.

- The price is fantastic. A DVD player is technology that will clearly be useless in a few years, so I wanted a cheap device.

- There is a "hack" to make this a multi-region player. google it.

- Its sturdy. My 3 year old and 20 month old kids were not able to destroy it in a 3 week vacation.

- Its easy to use. Really, idiot proof.

Cons

- Battery life is short. I bought an Energizer external battery pack

- Does not come with car charger or case

- I would have liked some way to lock the buttons so my kids can press things while the movie was playing.

I am planning on buying 1 more so each kid can have their own!

I got 7009 in retail store. I liked the picture quality so I picked one. First thing I noticed when opened the box, that there is no TV cable and Car adapter. Even here on this site in description of Accessories there is not ones. And then it became THE problem. I couldn't find it anywhere and ended up with buying two cables: One for audio (3.5mm stereo to 2 RCA) and one for video (3.5mm mono to 1 RCA). Last one I could find only in Radioshak Store. All together came to $12. Car charger for Coby on Amazon about $8. So $60 for DVD plus this accessories will come to $80. You count. This is the price of Sony DVD portables with such an accessories included. Besides that DVD screen menu all blur - horrible but ok, because film quality is pretty clear. You can adjust contrast and brightness for your comfort. Good thing is pretty useful remote control with what you can also turn on/off player distantly. It plays multi formats. So in my case 5 zone is needed and it worked well. Anti skip system is in work. Even some disks that my 8 year old Panasonic couldn't read Coby did. You can go between 4:3 and 16:9 ratio. TV out put works very well - nice quality. And it works in the car of cause with COBY CA-709 adapter (don't forget switch to 9V). Battery life (regardless it size) was enough at least for 2 movies and DVD was still on.Screen opens on certain angle only but you still can see clear if you sit aside (means you can share). There is inconvenience in charging. You have to turn off unit and plug in to wall charger. So if you watch movie in the car with batteries down then you stopped the engine your kids won't be happy I guess. It plays also MP3 and regular CD's. There are no additional slots like for memory sticks or USB. Controls on DVD is ok but a little confusing. Better use remote control.

All in all it's ok but I really wish those accessories would be included. As for unit life, how long it last - cant tell yet. Time will show.

I'll keep it short. Bought this along with the Coby car charger and the $15 case. All worked well during two 10-hour car rides with kids, but the volume control is on the right side of the player and is difficult to access when it is in the case. Also, the volume can't be adjusted from the remote. Finally, the remote is worthless if you have this thing in the case attached to a seat as the sensor is located on the front of the DVD player which is covered by the case. The sensor for the remote should either be located where the DVD is inserted or the remote should be RF instead of IR.

I recently purchase the Coby TFDVD7009 7-Inch Portable DVD player. The DVD player plays purchased DVDs just fine. I wanted to use it to watch previously recorded TV shows which I have recorded on my DVD recorder. The Coby does not play recorded DVDs. I have called the Coby company and Toshiba( my recorder is a Toshiba) and each company blames the other for the fact that it will not play my recorded DVDs. I am disappointed in this aspect of the Coby, but will keep the player for use in the car.

I ordered this based on the reviews for my 3 yr. old grandaughter, so far today we haven't been able to play even 1 movie through, it skips and stops all the time.We have only tried to use it on 4 different movies and it's 5 hrs out of the box. I will be sending it back unless the company sends me a new one soon. Hopefully the company will back the warranty up as this is very easy for her to use.

I brought this for the sole purpose of having it to show my 2 year old son his cartoons and educational programs via dvd, especially when on a lengthy car trip.

easy to use and what i didnt realise is that it has its own built in re-chargeable battery which is great. Great price for the features and brand.

so far no complaints, just need to figure out how to secure it onto the backseat car pull down tray.

Amir (Trinidad, Caribbean)

This piece of junk arrived working, but with a screen that was almost completely dark. I was only able to make out a very faint picture. Using an LED flashight I was able to find the brightness setting on the screen and it did not help. I called Coby directly and they told me the only fix was to disconnect the battery for an hour and retry. Well, the problem is that once you unplug the battery the connection is so cheap that it won't reconnect. Basically, this item is junk...I was hesitant buying something from a company I have never heard about..now I have to go through the RMA process..Oh joy! I'd stay away from this item if I were you and go to your local store and buy a Sony or something else. Hope this helps! - Coby Dvd Player - Car Dvd Player - Dvd Player - Portable Dvd Players'

Camera Batteries - camera batteries, d3100

When I received this battery. It did not say "Nikon". I believe this to be false advertisement unless I missed some fine print. The only print on the battery is: "Lithium Ion BATTERY PACK for EN-EL14 7.4V 1050mAh" on one side and Made in China on the other. It has the same shape as my Nikon D3100 DSLR battery that came with my camera, but my original battery says 7.4V 1030mAh 7.7Wh. When I put the battery in the camera it said, "! This battery cannot be used. Choose battery designated for use in this camera." Not Happy to Have to Return This Item. BEWARE!!! Nikon EN-EL14 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for Nikon D3100 DSLR, D5100 DSLR, and P7000 Digital Cameras

It's a New Nikon Factory battery and it works exactly as advertised. I always prefer factory batteries because the camera warranty still applies if there is a problem caused by the factory battery. This is not the case with a third party battery. You could easily ruin a four hundred dollar camera because you saved five dollars and be left with no warranty coverage. I highly recommend Nikon batteries.

I bought this as a spare for my D3100. In order to get the best battery life out of it, you need to go through a few charge-discharge cycles to condition it properly; when it starts getting low, use the Live View or flash to wear it down all the way before recharging. Usually when a battery charger light stops blinking, it indicates the battery has 85+ percent charge; keep it on the charger for another hour or so to give it a full charge. Also, using the Live View mode along with the pop-up flash will drain your battery quickly, so try using the View finder and get yourself a speedlight flash. I've used this for 9-10 hours before running low enough to change to my spare. Oh, and change your camera settings so the Auto Off Timers don't stay on long. You'll get plenty of juice out of this battery if you use it right.

For long trips, an extra battery is almost a necessary. There's really not much to say about a battery.......these work great for my Nikon D3100. So far I've been getting about 600-650 shots (mostly without a flash) per charge. Works great!

This product came on time and its worth it to get an extra battery to truly max out potential for each battery and not have the burden to charge a battery that doesnt need to be charge yet..price equals value.. - Camera Batteries - D3100 - Nikon Battery - Photography'

Playstation 3 - 8gb, flash drive

These are great. Simple, quick, cheap, reliable, fast, and to the point. I had a couple 2GB HP flash drives that I just replaced with 8GB HP flash drives now that the cost has come down quite a bit. I like them because they are streamlined to be easily carried around on your keychain. If you always have your keychain in your pocket, like most people, then you will always have storage space on hand. I have two on my keychain. One is for PortableApps (google: PortableApps), which is a very cool way of being able to run your own applications (Firefox, OpenOffice, Media Players, IM's, etc) on other people's computers without having to install anything on their computer. It is completely "take everything with you". The other one is to boot into a live Linux that runs off the USB drive without touching a HDD. Especially useful when you need to use various utilities to fix someone's computer: such as HDD partitioners, boot loader managers, ability to mount an NTFS drive and replace a corrupted file that is preventing their Windows from loading, text editing, etc, etc.

Like others have mentioned, the cap does not fit on the drive very tight so it will only be a matter of time before it gets lost. Others have commented about using string (glue or drill a hole) to keep the cap from getting lost. I didn't even bother. I just took the caps off and threw them into a drawer somewhere. I just carry the drives on my keychain without the caps. They won't get damaged.

These USB flash drives also have a built-in LED that illuminates during data transfer, so you can be sure that there is no data being transferred before disconnecting them. This will prevent possible file corruption.

It would be nice if HP made these drives in different colors other than black, so you could color code them for your various uses.

These, obviously, aren't secure (encrypted) USB flash drives, so if you are looking for something that you plan on using with sensitive information (and the possibility of it getting into the wrong hands), look elsewhere. HP v100w 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive P-FD8GBHP100-EF

I wrote a 1.5 gigabyte folder of .jpg pictures from my C drive to this HP flash drive at 7 megabytes per second. I read the same folder from this HP to my C drive at 17 megabytes per second. physically this HP drive is very small. seems like a sturdy plastic large-diameter hole for a lanyard to go thru. no lanyard is provided. the cap has not fallen off yet but the slightest tug pulls the cap off. excellent price.

It's plain, but sleek. This flash drive doesn't waste any space, unlike some of the awkwardly shaped ones out there. (Cruzer...)

I've had no problem transferring videos and songs on this; the transfer speed is nice, although I do not have enough experience to compare it to other like products.

One minor problem - the cap comes off very easily, and you can't clip it to the back while it's not in use. You'd better keep an eye on it.

I purchased one of these just over 5 months ago and it started having corruption problems with large files. Then two days ago while I was using it, in the middle of a transfer, it ceased functioning. Now it is unrecognized when plugged into any laptop or system I have. I'm going to try the extreme cold spray trick to see if I can get it working long enough to pull off the files I need. Since this is a rebranded product, your mileage will DEFINITELY vary.

After having several problems with my last 8GB memory stick drive, I was skeptical about getting another. I decided to go with the HP flash drive because it is a known company that will answer if the product had any problems. It worked great, this device not only has more memory, but is faster than all my other flash drives. And at a price of near $20, there is no rival to this little device.

I managed to get one big file transfer out of this drive before it died - Windows XP now says it can't format the drive, so it's completely unusable. I bought it 2 weeks ago, and am going to try to get my money back. I'm sure THAT will be a pleasure.

And the dumb, dumb cap. You can read the other reviews about it. It's ridiculous that they didn't design a cap that would a) stay on, and b) stay connected when opened. Dumb dumb dumb.

Very good, small and does the job. It is not retractable and does not come with lanyard but has a loop so any lanyard will work with it. Does not come with a program which is something I like. I hate having third party programs when they are unnecessary.

I like that this is a drive that works like it should. There are no additional software programs to messy things up. The cap seems like it would fall off easily but mine hasn't yet. I just wish it came with a lanyard to make it harder to lose. - Hp - Flash Drive - Thumb Drive - 8gb'

Dickies Work Pants - dickies work pants

I am a female who needed some durable but stylish work pants, and these have been great. They are a nice fit because they are skinny but they loosen up a bit after a few hours. Which for someone like me is a good thing, because I'm working in them and I need the mobility. They have a nice low cut waist as well, which if you are a female who has ever tried on the traditional men's dickies, you know the waist comes up to your chest and makes you look ridiculous. My only complaint is that I have not been able to find them in gray or green but I will keep looking! I don't mind the rough material, they ARE Dickies! Dickies Junior's Super Skinny Pant,Black,1

I bought a pair of used Dickies a couple of years ago and they are the softest, nicest pants. This new pair feels like plastic. They are so awful stiff. If they were washed a million times, would they be soft then? I don't want to wait to find out. - Dickies Work Pants'

I knew convincing my husband to try compression socks was going to be a challenge. Now it is my fault for not reading the specifications closer but... these socks did not help in the convincing.

They are somewhat thick (thinner than the white gym socks but not by much) -- definitely not the day to day dress socks he likes to wear. I will probably donate this to a local clinic Because even without trying them on he has said no way.

Also both he and I just don't like the general feel of the sock. They have a fuzzy quality. I can not talk about the compression but general look and feel are game stoppers for my husband. I too would not wear these socks.

If you like thicker socks these would be a good thing to try. Might be great for heavy work boots and such but not for general leisure wear or office attire. Truform 15-20 Mens Casual Overcalf, Large, Black (Pack of 2) - Truform - Socks - Support Hose - Health'

Black And Decker Charger - charger, 18 volt

I have a B&D Grass Hog cordless trimmer which I like... One battery isn't enough to do my entire yard (it came with 2 batteries, but only 1 charger) so I figured I'd order a second charger - have both batteries charged before I started the yard, and I'd be in 'hog heaven'. So, I ordered this charger from Amazon.

Long story short: It simply doesn't work.

It will not fully charge either of the two batteries that came with the trimmer although the charger that came with the unit charges the batteries just fine. It makes no difference how long you leave the battery on this charger - it won't fully charge it. In fact (get this!) I can take a fully charged battery from the original charger, put it on this charger and within a couple hours it will deplete the charge to roughly 1/2 strength - it takes the charge OUT of a fully charged battery!

This will only charge the batteries to about 1/3 charge. Sorry, but this is junk.

I've tried to get my money back, but Amazon (which I'm usually pleased with) but they're obviously better at selling items than accepting returns, even defective items. They've refused a refund, although I've only had this 'doorstop' 3 weeks...

Wish I didn't have to give it any stars at all, but Amazon won't allow that, and they have no 'negative' start, so this gets a really undeserved 1 star - it really should be minus 3 stars.

I can't recommend which charger you buy - but don't get this one.

Hope this helps someone as I just wasted my money.

Saint Louis MO Black and Decker 18 Volt Battery Charger 5103069-12

Found the product use life about 2 seasons of cutting lawns and trimming. I have an array of B&D tools, have several chargers & half dozen batteries. Found that batteries & chargers last about the same and I find it difficult to determine if it's the charger or the battery that is bad. I guess I expected more from the B&D accessories as I find the power tools a great help in maintaining my home and lawn.

Like the other reviews here, these 2 chargers that came with my B&D tools malfunctioned at about the same time. Then I bought the fs2400dc charger that has an indicator light to tell you if it's charging, completed or faulty(battery, that is). I found out that one of my batteries was faulty. I can't be sure if the faulty battery was the cause of both chargers going out but the bottom line is they did go out after relatively short use which I find unacceptable whatever the reason.

This charger is not worth a hoot. I bought the Black & Decker 3 lawn tool combo. It came with a triple battery charger. After that I have bought a battery chain saw and a extended hedge trimmer. They came with this little rinky-dink battery charger. I have had one of them for about 2 years and the other for 3 years and they both went out at the same time. Black & Decker should give away the tools because the ICAD batteries don't last and they make a fortune of the price of the useless batteries. They should make the batteries NIMH type so you can charge thm at anytime and not have to wear down the battery. I get about 15 minutes out a battery charge when using my weed trimmer. I like the battery operated tools it's just the sorry batteries and battery chargers I don't like.

I suggest if you buy any battery operated product that you make sure it comes with NIMH batteries not NICAD. You can read about the difference between batteries on the internet.

I have four B & D chargers. Three are model 5103069-12 and one is a 2009 model T180859. The other three chargers are 2005,2006, and 2007 models. All four of these chargers quit working within the last few months. All of them are out of warranty so I didn't attempt to contact B & D about them.

The failures of these chargers made me curious as to what actually happened to cause them to stop working. I cut open the cases on two of the chargers and found that both had a failure of the same diode in each unit. The bad diodes are easily spotted because of a darkened area around them from heat build up. At Radio Shack I purchased two replacement diodes for about $1.04. I replaced the diodes in both chargers and they now work ok. I have only used each to charge one battery so don't know how long the repair will last. Perhaps the original diode didn't have enough capacity, but that's only a guess. When I cut open the two remaining chargers, I am confident that they also will have burned out diodes.

Needless to say, I am unhappy with the quality of B & D chargers. The charger cases can be resealed using epoxy such as JB Weld.

Don"t buy this!!! It is unreliable!!

I have only used this charger three times to charge the batteries that came with my grasshog weedeater. Now it has died and I have three batteries and a weedeater that I can't use because B&D puts out such a horrible charger with their tools. What a collossal waste of my money!

I thought it would be nice to be able to just throw a battery on my grasshog and trim the lawn whenever convenient but I have learned my lesson. Anyone need three 18 volt batteries for their trimmer?????

I have three and they worked for over a year; then all went bad at about the same time. I have three because I own Black & Decker circular saws, recip. saws, drills, a sander, a weed trimmer, etc., all using the 18 volt system.

Two of these OEM units failed within a couple weeks. One was about three years old; the other about four months. The newer was replaced under warranty with a different model that is supposed to be more reliable: ETPCA-180021U2.

This charger and a battery came with my trimmer. I have had the charger for about 18 months now and it has stopped working. My experience is consistent with the other reviewers regarding how short the life of this charger is. I just checked B&D's Web site and I don't see this charger listed. Hopefully that means they have stopped making it! - Charger - Black And Decker - Cordless Lawn Tools - 18 Volt'

Ball Stabilizer - back relief, ball chair

I ordered this thinking that it could possibly adjust to height differences, or that it would be tall enough for me to sit on comfortably. It is very short and there is no way to adjust it. I do like sitting on it but it puts me low to the ground which I do not like. It would not be compatible with most desks unless you have a tray that can move up and down for your keyboard. DynaFlex BC0320 Ball Chair with Base

I bought this since my husband and I were looking for ways to improve core strength. It has proved to be a good addition to our exercise and stretching/yoga programs. Since you spend so much time on the computer, you might as well use a chair that helps you improve your posture and strength, while preventing you from slouching.

The ball chair arrived with no instructions and missing the thin metal bar that is supposed to help keep the ball in position, but I've found it isn't necessary. The ball also needs a little inflating every couple of weeks, but again, no big deal. It's a great affordable substitute for similar chairs, such as the Evolution Chair, which retails for twice the price. I recommend using it for a short time, maybe 30 minutes daily, then gradually working up to all-day use over a 2-3 week period so your back doesn't get tired and you gradually build up core strength. All in all, a great item!

I bought this as a replacement for my desk chair. Since I am at my desk and computer so much, I figured that I should make sure that I got something that would help my posture as well as finding a place for my tush. Now that I have had it for a month, I've no real complaints. Since I'm 6'3", I was concerned that the base and ball would make me too high for my desk, but the 55" ball that came with it is just right for my height. The base is not adjustable up or down, by the way. Perhaps I didn't read the description correctly, but I wasn't aware that it came with a ball, so wasted some money buying an extra one. The only other "ding" on the product is that it is priced high for what you get (a plastic mold with wheels). However, it is cheaper and better for you than a regular chair, so no real complaints. Thumbs up!

I was having a lot of lower back problems due to sitting in a chair all day at work. While getting up and moving around more often is important, it is hard to do when you have more work than you can keep up with. This balance ball chair makes a world of a difference by helping to keep my core in motion even while I'm sitting. I originally tried a regular balance ball, but it was difficult to use without the wheels. This chair is the best of both worlds, giving the added motion of a balance ball, and the mobility of a chair with wheels. It didn't come with the bar that is shown in the photo to hold the ball in place, but it isn't required since the ball stays put in the holder without it. Some reviewers complained about the height of the chair, but as it is a balance ball, the height is easily adjustable by adding or releasing air. I am 5'4", and was able to fill it to a perfect height for my body and desk.

I would've rated this chair 5 stars, but I'm very annoyed by the locks on the wheels. I've never had a chair with locking wheels, so I don't know why they felt they were needed on this one. I accidentally close the locks with my legs several times a day, and have to keep unlocking them because of it. If it wasn't for these locks, it would be the perfect office chair.

The DynaFlex ball chair with base has been wonderful for me! I am at my desk for most of the day in front of a computer, this makes me more conscious of my posture as well as gives me an opportunity to do "mini" exercises off to the side on my break. I suggest this to anyone who has a "desk job"!

No problem with the base. The ball is far too small and I am on the short side. So now what?? My co-worker got a Gaiam product it was perfect. I looked to see a size in the description but assumed they would send the appropriate size so I spent 60+ dollars and the product is of no use. I will have to return. Very disappointed.

The chair came the first time with no plug to hold the air in. I returned it for an exchange. The second chair came with a plug and i was able fill the ball with air and inserted the plug. However, the chair is to short to work at a standard height desk. Also, it came with no instructions. I do not recommend this chair to anyone.

The negatives about this ball were that if you're tall it isn't good for you. Well, short people unite! I am petite and I LOVE THIS BALL CHAIR.

I will say if you're over 5'7" I would look in to a larger ball chair option. But, if you're small this is a great option!! - Ball Chair - Balance Ball - Back Relief - Office Chair'

Faceplates - htc thunderbolt screen protector, htc thunderbolt

I've applied plenty of screen protectors, i got it on, no bubbles, no dust, perfect application. Within 5 minutes 3 of 4 sides are starting to peel away from the screen. I applied it immediately after unboxing my thunderbolt. So, i try the 2nd protector included and have the same issue. Maybe it's a fluke, but i wouldn't risk it. Look elsewhere. Seidio SPM1HTMEC-2 Ultimate Screen Guard 2 Pack for HTC ThunderBolt - 1 Pack - Retail Packaging - Crystal Clear

As with any screen protector, this is difficult to put on. What makes it difficult is aligning it just right. It is cut to be just about the same size as the screen, so you must have millimeter precision. What I found to be useful is applying it from the one side to the other side, instead of top to bottom. If you are off just a little bit, you'll have bubbles along the edge. It took me a few tries, but with patience you'll get it.

If you get a little dust on it like I did, then here's what you can do. Use a piece of adhesive tape to lift up the cover, and then use another piece of adhesive cellophane tape (eg Scotch tape) that doesn't leave any residue to pick up any dust on your screen and the cover. This worked like a charm.

Do this in a room that you think is dust free, and ensure that you don't have any fans blowing, as fans will circulate dust around.

The nice thing about this screen guard is that it doesn't leave any residue. This case is also good about being more finger print resistant than some other guards I've used. There's a little notch on the top that in this screen guard so that it doesn't cover up the proximity sensor. Make sure you install the cover with the notch towards the top left side of screen.

Some really cheap screen covers will end up looking really bad because they scratch easily, have a lot of glare, or discolor the output, but this one seems to be top notch. Still looks nice and clean after spending some time in my pocket and my car's cup holder, and it hasn't noticeably affect the screen quality.

Overall, I've been happy with Seidio's accessories, although I don't quite agree with their prices, but perhaps the saying "You get what you pay for" holds true here.

I ordered this based upon some reviews on the Verizon Wireless Website. I cleaned the glass with the micro-fiber cloth and that did a good job of cleaning.

The application of the clear cover is a get it once or you won't get it smooth type of application. If you get ANY dust on the 'sticky' side, it leaves a bubble. and if you apply and pull off, you are about guaranteed to get dust or something on there so be VERY ready to lay it down once and go.

Also, the edges would really not stay down. It is too close to the edge of the glass and where the housing lines up.

I think if they'd have reduced the perimeter by about 1/16th of an inch or so, this would be a better protector.

Some of the problem is operator error, be careful, clean twice, apply once. But I'm really not happy with the results even after two tries and now both sheets have dust on the 'sticky' side and are no good.

I've ordered another product I've used in the past. The one that fits the extended battery and back cover. Hopefully that will go better. Unfortunately a wasted 10 spot on this product.

My screen protector fit just fine, contrary to the problems a few others have reported.

My issue lies in the fact that it somehow was scratched in my pocket pretty badly, I don't even recall having keys or anything else in there. A few days after that, two vertical scratches in another spot. Screen protector has done it's job, but has lasted less than a month.

Two more words : FINGERPRINT MAGNET

A friend has the same type of screen protector for the htc incredible and it looks great with absolutely no smudges. My screen protector actually covers the entire screen, which is great, but I am constantly wiping off my fingerprints from the screen. I am hoping I just got a bad/defective protector. I will try to put on the second cover and hopefully will have better luck then, but I am skeptical at this point.

Don't waste your time and money. Both screen guards were too big and did not fit the screen. Corners would not adhere to the screen causing bubbles and dirt to accumulate. For the price I expected much better.

First, please do not be suckered into buying anything like the "Invisible Shield" or other similar products.

If the screen protector involves wet application, avoid it like the plague.

That said, this screen protector is awesome. It fits the WHOLE screen unlike the crap they sell you at Verizon. It's very easy to install if you use a little common sense.

First, go to your bathroom, fire up the hot water in the tub and close the door. Let the steam build up and shut off the tub water, and now clean your screen and then apply this protector. The steam will pull all of the dust and particles out of the air and allow you to get your screen protector on without any little particles causing bubbles.

Canon Rebel Xs - canon rebel xs, photography

I spent several weeks reviewing the REBEL XS vs it's many 10 MP adversaries, I even checked it against the ultra zooms as I wanted the convenience of video as well, but too many good things stood out with this camera and so I decided upon it. I bought the rebel XS and after days of dirt testing this camera I've found it a beautiful experience.

Now I'm a professional videographer attached to a tv station in Trinidad & Tobago, my purpose for this camera was the need for a quick sharp still shot camera that would be impressive under low light and still capture impressive portrait shots to be used for my website and for large prints. I didn't want to shell out over a $1000. US for a camera body.

What is tagged by Canon is true: The full auto mode is truly accurate and gives excellent shots always, it makes photography so easy for a beginner or intermediate. The portrait mode isn't blurry, images are clean, nicely toned, excellent in quality for large size prints. The P ( program mode) I like alot at first because this mode sets exposure so nicely I found it addictive. I shot alot of night pics of cars on a freeway, with bright, sharp, lively colours emerging. Night pics at 800 iso had very very very little noise, and I mean I was searching the pics on 15" monitors for reason to complain, but was really impressed.

The auto focus is really quick. Th XS comes with "only" a 7 point auto focus system compared to the XSi 9 point, forgive me when I say there may be no need for another 2 points when the camera focusses so quick and so accurately. I have not gotten a soft image when shot with the auto focus operating.

Now for those point and shoot cams that boast about "face detection"....5 faces...6,7, some even 15. I also have a 10 mp ultra zoom, this simply matters little if not at all, if the focussing ability of the camera is poor or average, and given the "average lens" quality they're made of.

I have learnt clearly that a 10 MP ultra zoom simply cannot compare to a 10 MP D SLR...chalk and cheese.

I also bought the Tamron 70mm - 300mm, F4-5.6 telephoto/ macro lens. No vignetting at either end of the lens.

Auto iso is simply magnificent, have not taken a shot where the camera over estimated or underestimated the iso levels.

The Manual mode of this camera is the most impressive for me. The rebel XS via various magazine testing has come up faster than it's other 10 MP rivals when it comes to fps shooting, and burst images. It really does shoot 3 fps consistently, it shoots 2.3 fps in low light, worst case is over 1 fps all at 10 MP quality.

I haven't used a lower quality since, given I bought a Transcend 8GB SDHC card storage is not an issue.

Most of my shooting has been at night, for the little done in daylight, it has been amazing. Colours are very bright, depth of field very very nice. Macros works well. Image optimizer simply shocked life out of me. I was in a shaded area and without flash it really improves the subject without over blowing the background, stuff that is almost impossible on point and shoot cams.

Stuff I disagree with from the "reviews" : 1- "The camera feels cheaply built"....simply wrong, nothing is shabby, buttons are actually easy to press, doesn't have cheap clicks to them, the lens mount has a secure feel to it, and a proper snap when it is set. Battery compartment is certainly secure. Your finger must intricately open the door for entry, won't be an accident issue. Rubber door at a.v. ports snap in well. Rubber grip is firm enough, smooth enough to not irritate your hands.

2- " XS is "overpriced" compared to the XSi.....Xsi shoots slower than the XS, XSi picture quality is equal to the XS even though the XSi is 12 MP. The XSi may be the 3" LCD and a few other upgrades, but these upgrades don't add up when the picture is taken and the quality of both cameras match alike. I may have chosen the XSI if I wanted to spend the extra $150. u.s but for the lesser price, I'm yet to regret.

3- "The XS "only has a 2.5" LCD compared to a couple of it's rivals having 3" LCD's". I can see every thing clearly with this screen, even with Histograms, and grids onscreen. If LCD's get much bigger then canon may need to install a tv tuner as well....the 2.5" is more than sufficient.

4- "The XS doesn't have SPOT METERING compared to the XSi, so this is a big issue"- haven't encountered a reason to complain yet, after 500 night shots and 200 day shots.

THE DOWN SIDE: the EOS software for uploading the photos to computer, and remote controlling the cam via computer is AWFUL. It's a task to upload, as it is beach balling when you hit "upload". Digital professional software is non responsive. I have not been able to use the software past the install point. Mac version here.

Better use i-photo and photoshop.

I highly rate this camera, and as a videographer who's accustomed to t.v. broadcast quality the REBEL XS is worth it, and since canon is so intent on pushing the rebel XSi they have significantly lowered the price on the XS.....I recommend people buy the XS and get a good lens with the discount earned. The trick is in the lens and the user, and lesser the camera. Directv - universal remote control, rc64

I cannot believe the number of people who don't read things before they buy. Of course this remote is not RF. The RF remote is an extra cost item when you buy a DirecTV receiver and YES the receiver is a LEASE item but they give it to you free when you sign up for service so what's the big deal. As to the remote control it works perfect and how can you beat $1.95 plus shipping? You can purchase it for $20 at Wal-Mart or from DirecTV for $15 plus shipping. At $1.95 each I bought two, one for my wife and one for me and they both work perfect. What a deal. DirecTV RC64 Universal Remote Control

Even though this item is listed on the Amazon site as a Universal RF remote, it is NOT RF capable. I spent thirty minutes trying to program it for RF before I finally called DirecTV and discovered that the RC64 is infrared only; the RC64R (the last R stands for RF) is the RF version, and that's not what is being sold here. If you need RF to work the unit in a cabinet, as I do, this remote is worthless.

I ordered this item ANTonline through Amazon. This item says it is a backlite RF reomte but what they sent was a plain RC64 that is exactly like the oem remote that comes in the box. If you really need a RC64RB which is backlite and radio operated I think you will better served to get it directly from directv for $25.00.

AMAZON was impressive taking care of this tranaction. Amazon made this right even though the shipper Antonline refused contact to deal with this issue. Nice job AMAZON!

this remote is not RF as advertised, it a plain IF and will not work if your receiver is in a cabinet. it came from Antonline. I notified Amanda, their service mgr. she asked for the upc code which i gave her that was weeks ago, so far I have heard nothing. have emailed her and am getting stoned walled. don't do business with this outfit. dshadoan

This remote is a nice compliment to my current remote for my Directv HDDVR RC23. It has larger buttons and is slightly bigger in general that the RC23 remote.

So the BAD thing is that the remote described on this page is not exactly what you will get. The remote I received is not RF capable and does not have a backlit keypad.

This was a replacement to the old one (RC32) which I had because the buttons wore off. This quickly was programmed with no issues. Excellent price at the time for this remote also. So worth it! Thanks

Look at something else if you are looking to replace your direct tv remote. Have had this for 2 months and hate it. That's why I'm here looking to purchase something else and could not resist warning others.

1. Flimsy top slide control. (First impression out of the box)

2. Too acute of an aim required. Really annoying.

3. A single pressing of a button will sometimes result in multiple button steps because you did not press the button "just right". EXTREMELY ANNOYING

4. Personal negative; I dislike how it will not sit flat. Rocks too easily.

5. Positive; better than no remote at all.

Word to the wise. Keep looking.

Had to replace 2 remotes because of the dog eating them... (and I do mean eating them, not just a couple chew marks, they were destroyed). DirectTV wanted $15 each plus shipping. I paid $6 each. Big savings, so I bought a few extra, just in case. This is the exact same model we got from the installer, works everything the same way. No instruction manual, but you can go on the All4One site & get all the codes you need to program this to work everything. Definitely worth the money!

I have two DirecTV receivers with identical looking remotes, except one is labelled RC64 and the other is labelled RC64R. Neither has an external antenna. Both work identically, except that RC64R has RF capability. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the RC64 to work when I went through the DirecTV RF setup (at the end of punching in the setup code, it tells you that if it doesn't now work as an RF remote, then you just have to use IR mode - nowhere does DirecTV tell you that some remotes aren't even capable of transmitting RF). Thankfully, I found a couple previous reviewers who noted the above difference. Otherwise, it's a decent, but not outstanding, remote. On the other hand, the RF feature of the RC64R is very useful, and it still controls my TV's volume, input and power using standard IR while controlling DirecTV receiver with RF (and RF is married to a specific receiver so it won't interfere with receivers in other rooms). - Rc64 - Remote Control - Universal Remote Control - Remote'

Dual Layer - dual layer, dual layer dvd

For a long time, Memorex was the only Double Layer option for me because of price. I never really had a hard time with the 2X discs burning on the Pioneer burners (DVR-110D and 111D) in most Macs. The new 8X discs are a completely different story. I've lost at least half of the discs. I switched from DragonBurn to Toast8, with improved results for a few burns, but then more "sense errors" a quarter to halfway through the burn. The reality is Memorex DL media is not preferred media for the Pioneer drives. It was never a problem till this new 8X batch. Buy at your own risk! Memorex 8.5GB 8X Double Layer DVD+R (25pk Spindle)

I had bought a 15 pack spindle of these DVD DLs and it worked just fine, so I figured I'd go with the best deal since they are the best priced DVD DLs out there and I bought a 25 pack spindle. About 8 DVDs into it and not one worked. I burned SONY and HP DVDs just fine but this spindle of Memorex is a complete waste of money.

I've tried contacting Memorex via email to get my money back but so far they've just ignored me. I will no longer be purchasing Memorex, in the end you really save no money buying these discs since you throw so many of them out...

These discs are unreliable and not worth wasting time with. Burning with Nero 6.x on a Sony DVD burner on a Win2000Pro PC resulted in failure to verify the burn on the first sectors 100% of the tries. Burning on a new Plextor burner attached to a Macbook with Toast 7 results in failures during burn or verify about 40% of the time and discs that verify still won't play properly, with video pauses and skips.

I've used Memorex DVD-R and DVD+R DL discs exclusively. I've had no problems burning discs with my Toast 6 (and later Toast 8) software and a Pioneer dual layer drive until buying these 8x Memorex DVD+R DL discs. I'm getting a 50% failure rate during the transition to the second layer even when burning at only 2X. The failure is reported as "Media Sense Error." I strongly recommend against purchasing 8x DL discs from Memorex until they fix this defect.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE PRODUCT!!

Out of the 25 that came in the pack, the first nine failed to burn. NINE IN A ROW!

Needless to say I didn't wait around to see if the other 16 would suffer the same fate, I promptly returned these to the place of purchase.

Just to make sure that it wasn't the DVD burner on my 3 week old Apple MacBook that was the problem I borrowed a blank SONY DVD+R DL disk from a friend and tried burning the exact same files. Guess what...it worked perfectly. Lesson learned: you get what you pay for.

I will never buy another Memorex product again.

I have used Memorex DL 2.4x ever since they came out. NEVER had a problem with HUNDREDS of burns. Now the 2.4x are no longer available and I had to buy these 8x. Failed burns from the get-go.

Okay, update the burner's firmware, update Nero -- that MUST have been the problem. Oh no it wasn't: same results. If 1 out of 3 succeeded, I was surprised. No one on any forum has a valid theory for the failures. As other reviewers have stated, the failure always occurs shortly ater the second layer begins writing.

Stay WAY AWAY from these Memorex DL 8x until the manufacturer corrects the problem.

I bought these on another site and while I saw a few reviews saying they didn't work, I dismissed those reviews as being the standard people who don't know how to use the product or just like to complain. Well, I was wrong. These things are completely worthless. Like everyone else, I tried to burn half a dozen and everyone failed while starting the second layer.

Do not waste your money on these. Even if you have purchased these in the past and they worked, I'd stay away. According to some people on the other site, Memorex switched their DVD supplier last year from a high quality disc to this junk.

Stay away!

Worst disks I have ever bought. I had purchased some memorex dvd dl 2.4x discs in the past without any issues burning with my sony burner. The new discs I have not had one burn successfully.

Please note I burned a dvd dl disc with no issues 5 minutes prior to using these discs. - Dual Layer - Dual Layer Dvd - Dvd Dual Layer - Memorex'
