Laptop Accessories - voip adapter, skype

I came to Afghanistan expecting to use my personal laptop for skyping. When that didn't happen, I needed a headset with separate plugs for input and output and all I had were a set of headphones that came with my Google Nexus One. After looking at several expensive headsets I saw this splitter that would allow me to use my current gear with the computer equipment available to me for a fraction of the price. The adapter works great with crisp, clear sound both on the in and out, though I suspect this will vary based on what hardware you use along with it. It shipped and arrived promptly, so I am overall quite happy with the purchase. Headset Buddy Adapter: Smartphone Headset to PC Adapter - Use a 3.5mm iPhone/Smartphone Headset With Your PC, Converts 3.5mm Plug to Dual Mic/Audio 3.5mm, for Skype/VOIP

Bought this to use my Zagg SmartBuds with my laptop for Skype when travelling after I couldn't find anything locally. Works perfectly, including stereo audio through the headphones (some other products seem to only support mono audio).

Wish it were cheaper, but I guess that's a quibble.

I have a skullcandy headset for a smartphone with an in-line mic. The headset works fine on it's own, but when I try to use this adapter with it for my PC, it goes to crap. People can hardly hear me, and there's lots of static. Nothing I do will make it sound better.

EDIT: After being contacted by the company that sold it through amazon after I posted my review, they sent me a new one free of charge. It didn't work any differently than the old one, so I assume it's either my pc or the specific headset that's not working with the adapter.

I can say though that the company has fantastic customer service. I'd shop with them again :)

I have a Macbook (Apple MacBook MB062LL/A 13.3" Notebook PC (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor White) ~2007 model with a line-in symbol that looks a little like this: >o<. Unfortunately, after ordering this product and discovering that it did not work, I found out that this model of MacBook requires a "line-level" mic, one that is powered.

You might have better luck with a newer model MacBook or MacBook Pro but the Headset Buddy does not work with this one. (I tested it with another (non-macbook) laptop and it was fine.)

I'm putting this review here with the hope of saving another MacBook owner the trouble.

For this model of MacBook, you can use a USB headset. I use these and really like them but they are obviously a little more difficult to travel with than a set of smartphone earbuds. Plantronics DSP400 Foldable Multimedia Headset

I used to have two head sets, one with a mic for making VOIP calls and another for listening to music or watch movies on my laptop, phone or PSP. I recently bought an expensive headset with a mic so I wouldn't have to carry two headsets every where, however, it came with a sinlge jack for both mic and audio. I got this so I could use my headset to do everything. Works well, transfers sounds/music without corrupting or affecting it negatively. Really good value for the money.

Hope it lasts though...

This adapter started working pretty well. The microphone quality compared to the PC built in mic was terrific. However, after about 3 uses, the mic connection within the adapter itself stopped making contact, rendering the product totally worthless. I tried 2 different headsets, both of which work fine with a mobile phone. Neither worked with Headset Buddy. My Headset Buddy skipped out on me, leaving me $12 poorer. Too bad there are not more choices for this product.

Do yourself a favor, don't buy it unless you are willing to play Russian roulette with your $12. - Headset Adapter - Laptop Accessories - Voip Adapter - Skype'
