Pretty good device for the price. Video quality is OK. IR illumination works good out to about 15 feet. Pan/Tilt functions well. Recording software included. It has mic and speaker on board, but does not work very well. Hootoo Brand IP Wireless MPEG4/MJPEG Pan/Tilt/Zoom Network IP Camera with hootoo logo
Based on other reviews, I expected this camera to be a serviceable wireless IP camera. I got WAY more than I expected. It works great in daylight or darkness. The web page that it broadcasts is really good for mobile or desktop/laptop browsers. All kinds of features that I didn't expect.
I am very competent with network setup, port-forwarding, web servers, etc., and setting this camera up was very easy. If you don't know your way around your router's configuration page, this might not be the best camera for you. If you're a DIYer, go for it.
This camera is very similar to a popular FOSCAM model that you can search for to get information on some setup tricks. My favorite is the only way to get sound if you're not using Windows:
If your normal webpage for the camera loads at [...], instead load [...](might have to use vlc media player for the .asf address). Now you can write your own scripts to pass the video to whatever you want. A friend of mine wrote a script that saves whatever is on the camera once every minute. I put together a time lapse of my son rolling around in his crib through the night.
In summary, this is a great camera for nerd who love to play with nerdy toys. If you don't know what your router's IP address is, you might want to stay away. It could be more trouble than it's worth.
I bought 4 of these to monitor activity at my barn due to theft and abuse. Once setup these cams have been great. The night vision is good. Only complaint is no zoom but for the price these have done the job. Not rugged: One of the borders put his hat over one of them to smoke in the barn and broke the motor, but with 3 other cameras he was busted and kicked out.
I've had this camera up and running for a little over a month. Setup was pretty easy. It took all but about 5 minutes. I do have a good understanding of router functions. Those that arent comfortable making changes to their router will have problems with this camera and other ip cameras if they want to access the camera from outside thier home.
Video quality is good for the sensor type of the camera. The infared night functions works very well. The microphone does not pickup very well but that was not a huge draw for me.
Excelent product for the price. Very easy to setup for access inside the domain (camera and notebook in the same wi-fi network). However it took me some time to setup for external access (accessing out of the house or office through another internet connection). Once you set it up it works really fine. Pan and Tilt are good, the software supplied has a lot of features, specially the alarm options. I would definitely buy another one, but maybe a model with power zoom.
So, this camera is overall excellent. It's a FOSCAM clone that supports the same feature set. It even gets detected as a FOSCAM device by several cam viewer apps. Colors are vibrant, PTZ works great, and the wifi connected light can be turned off. Night/low-light is where it really shines, the low lux IR array on this camera produces super clear images in near zero light. Great for the kid's nursery or motion monitoring the house at night.
On the negative side, the firmware/web control software is very cheesy and has mispellings and grammar errors (typical of clone manufacturers) but I never use it after initial setup and I have read that FOSCAM firmware can be flashed to it no problem. The main negative for me has less to do with the camera and more to do with how it is labeled in the product description here on Amazon. I decided to keep the camera anyway, but know that it is NOT an MPEG4 camera as labeled. Cameras that can capture MPEG4 streams run around $250+. This one is MJPEG only. The product page here should really be redone, as it is completely misrepresenting this feature.
I wanted this to work with my iPhone and they tried to help me accomplish that, but I'm technically challenged. The camera worked fine on my pc, but I couldn't get it to do what I wanted to do without downloading files to my phone. They really bent over backwards to try to help, but I just got frustrated. I'm sure for you tech savvy people out there you'll do fine. They were very nice about refunding my money.'
