Look, don't believe anything the company says about this product. I bought this clunker and despite the indicator light never showing it's charged it did charge a couple batteries. I have to charge it via USB port, forget the sun, this just won't cut it. I bought this when it was much cheaper and after I talked to customer service about how bad this product is, they raised the price rather than fix the product. I can't believe Amazon lets them sell this on their site. It's crap. I bet this review gets buried, but really, don't buy this expecting it to work as described!! Sunpak Sc-2800 Solar/USB NiMH 2800 mAh Battery Charger
It works fine. It charges well and the largest battery for the price I could fine. The LED flashlight is bright enough and charges every cell phone and ipod I have. Does not charge an iphone but oh well.
I've had this product for nearly two weeks and here are my impressions. First of all, the price was very right on this unit, so I bought it despite a few iffy reviews. The first thing I noticed after allowing the unit to charge (USB initially, as I opened the box at night) is that the "charge indicator" LED will stay at "low charge" red whether you charge it for 2 hours or 20 hours (I have done both). Having a working charge indicator light would have been nice but it doesn't affect the functionality of the unit. I've used the charger to charge my MP3 player and two cellphones. The unit doesn't seem to have enough juice on a full charge to fully charge the battery on the heftier 3G cellphone, but it is able to get it maybe 90% of the way up which is good enough for a short term fix. I have yet to experiment with charging devices while the charger is capturing solar energy. The types of adapters that come with this unit are suitable for my needs; just don't lose them.
Overall, I am satisfied with this product. It won't charge your whole drawer full of devices on a single day's charge, but at very least you should be able to keep your devices from going dead. This product would be especially useful if you were going to be camping or visiting out of town. You don't want your cellphone to die on Friday night of a weekend visit somewhere because you forgot to charge up that day. I can't yet speak to the long-term durability of this item (physically or battery-life), but I will update my review if anything happens.
I had bought two units to test. The light lit up showing it was charging when in sunlight, however, it did not charge any of the cell phones or sky caddie that I tried to charge. Had the same result with both units. Quality was extremely poor! Save your money!
Bought the charger to charge my iphone 4G, but as stated in a previous review it didn't work. I did some research and found out that a USB Charging device needed to have the D+ & D- pins (pin 2 & 3) shorted together to charge most modern devices. So I took one of my older iPhone/iPod cables and shorted the D+ D- wires (green & white). Now I have the best solar charges for the money charging my iPhone 4. The devices are perfectly paired. 8 to 10 hours charge time using solar, with a device that can last a full day. You do the math! FYI... Once you short iPod/iPhone cable, it can ONLY be used for this charger.
It worked fine for two charges. Two. Then it simply stopped working. Don't waste your time and money with this. I've tried several Sunpak items like this, and all are about the same. Nearly useless. Consider a higher capacity roll-up solar panel. The price is higher, but they actually work and will last.
it charged my droid x and my mom's incredible, but i had to use the cable with the special connector for it to work on my droid. the charge indicator light never went to green, even when i left it charged on my pc overnight. it only goes red or orange. the solar charging isn't very effective (i left it in the sun all day when it was dead and it was still dead after) i don't know if it can only be solar charged if it has a certain level of charge left, or if the solar part doesn't work at all.
I ordered 1 of these and it did not work. I followed the instructions exactly as they read.
I thought it was just defective, so i mailed it back for a replacement. The replacement did not work either.
I left them plugged in for 4 hours each time, as the instructions said, and they did not charge 1 bit. Neither 1 of them.
I am very, very unhappy with this product, and highly recommend that you do not buy it. Take it from someone who has given it two chances.
I purchased this product for a specific reason. I live where the power goes out often during hurricane season.I live out in the country where it's always the last place for power to be restored. I use e-cigarettes and needed a charger for my batteries. This product does recharge my batteries great in the same length of time as a regular power source ! I have used it several times. The only thing I've come to see is that the LED lights on this are not reliable. They never show when the unit is fully charged even when using the usb plug in to electricity. When out in the sun trying to charge it, you can't tell when it's fully charged either. It will nicely recharge several of my batteries before going dead itself. I get about 12 hours worth of charging batteries out of it before it goes dead on average. If the LED lights would work properly it would be much better. It only shows red no matter how long you charge it sun or by usb power. It's small size & light weight makes it good for easy take-a-long for camping or storage in ones glove box in the car. - Battery Charger - Battery - Solar Charger - Charger'
