Gps Logger - gps logger
I've used many little bluetooth GPS units before because I develop land surveying equipment. I've also used many survey grade recievers that cost $40K. I know what I am talking about.
This one is by far the best cheap hand-held unit I've used. Battery lasts for ages and the satellite acquisition is really fast compared to other chipsets. I left it sitting outside for a week once, still turned on, and due to the power save mode it still worked when I remembered about it a week later and reconnected. Ran for another 8 hours or so before it finally ran out of juice.
It will even get satellites in a basement under a 2 story house. Of course, the location isn't very accurate, but the fact that it even gets a signal is very impressive.
Size-wise it is smaller than a deck of cards - about the size of a really small flip cell phone. 3 AA batteries together, and one lengthwise across them endwise is the approximate size.
Can't go wrong with this unit. It is standard bluetooth serial port profile (SPP slave) and streams NMEA data the moment you connect. The strings it supports are GGA,GSA,GSV,RMC. Qstarz BT-Q818 66-Channel Bluetooth GPS Receiver
If you do your research you'll find out that this GPS receiver has by far the most channels (32), one of the most accurate chips (158dBm) and one of the most long lasting batteries (32hrs), but enough about technical details, if you're looking for a BT GPS receiver that will will work with your windows mobile device, don't look any further, this is the product for you.
I couldn't get it to work with Google Maps but that was a google issue so instead I'm using it with Windows Live and it works great!
Holds a charge forever. Grabs signal fast. Holds the signal when stuffed into a backpack or when it falls on the floor of the car and slides under the dash. How's it do that? The switch feels a little cheap, but it hasn't broken. The LED lights are cryptic and require a manual within easy reach, which is why I docked it a star. Works great with my T-Mobile MDA. Very simple to use. Great!
This little bluetooth device is wonderful. Works with my ipod touch (jailbroken) and roqyBT program ($11). Also works with google earth (make sure u assign it to a low port number, google only goes up to about 20 or so), and just about any navigation software (Delorne, Windows Streets). A great buy!
This Bluetooth GPS unit works well and is simple to use. I have not explored the more complex capabilities but I know that it locks on to satellites fairly quickly and doesn't lose them. It even works indoors, though it is a bit slower than with a direct or near direct (like in a car) view of the sky. The slower mode is plenty quick enough for basic use. The faster mode almost seems real-time quick. When traveling at highway speeds the map indicator moves along steadily and accurately. The speed indicator derived from the GPS tracking nearly matched my vehicle's speedometer. The battery is user replacable. Unfortunately, as best I can tell the battery is not a common one so good luck finding a compatible one from anyone but the manufacturer.
Other than the proprietary battery, I have no complaints.
So maybe battery life is horrible, I don't know yet. Otherwise, it does exactly what I want. USB and BT GPS. Manual is printed in 2 point font. No drivers included - have to use the web. Otherwise, nice GPS.
I bought this to use with my Droid 2 running Trackmaster. When I got mine, the battery was completely dead and I feel like it took 2 full days to charge fully. It seems to hold a charge for a very long time, and will put itself to sleep if you leave it on overnight.
This receiver is much more accurate and faster (5hz) than the built in GPS. My data logging is much more useful with this receiver. I usually tape it to my dashboard in the racecar and put my phone in the center console (to record G's)
Purchased this product for using with Smartphone.
SmartPhone: Samsung Galaxy S
Navigator: Google Navigation
Connection: Bluetooth GPS Mouse from Argotronic - Android Market Place.
Had Pharos bluetooth GPS. Due to both Samsung Galaxy S built-in GPS and Pharos GPS no/delay starting, I decided to purchase this product after reading reviews.
It starts very fast within 10-20 sec, almost all times start within seconds.
Very satisfied with this product except one thing. Always about 5-10 meters behind on GPS than actual location. I am not sure if this problem is from the product or my smartphone. - Gps Logger'
