Keyboard And Mouse - mouse combos, keyboard and mouse
After using this product for several days I have grown to love the keyboard. The keys are spaced perfectly, it has just the right amount of feedback, and is nearly silent.
I was looking for simplicity( I have never really used shortcut keys) and volume controls, are all I really need. It does have programmable F-keys that can be used as media controls, eject, and monitor brightness. I find typing more comforatable on a flat surface as opposed to raised up on a wristpad. Keyboard 5/5.
On the other "hand" the mouse is terrible. It is a decent size, comfortable in your hand and glides along a pad or desk smoothly. The scroll wheel is very smooth as well, BUT I have never used a mouse that required so much effort to click. It literally needs to be pressed so hard that everytime I right click, my right arm moves up and to the right, causing the mouse pointer to move off my target frequently.
If I could do it over I would purchase the keyboard by itself http://www.amazon.com/Hewlett-Packard-FQ480AA-Wireless-Elite-Keyboard/dp/B001IOHAVO/ref=sr_1_36?ie=UTF8&s=pc&qid=1245364930&sr=1-36 and use the savings on another mouse. It is about 25 dollars cheaper for just the keboard here on amazon.
Check out my pictures, this thing looks great on a desk. 4/5 HP Wireless Elite Keyboard and Mouse
I haven't had this product very long, but I wanted to let potential buyers know that it *does* work with Linux. I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 and I just plugged it in and it worked. The USB subsystem recognized it immediately and I was using it within a couple minutes of taking it out of the box.
The keyboard itself and the mouse are quite nice. I have no complaints. That said, this keyboard is probably not for everybody. If you use a keyboard for a living, like I do, you tend to be very particular about what you like and don't. For me, this works. Others - particularly those who don't like laptop keyboards or flat (almost no contour), low-profile keys - may not care for it.
The mouse is perfect in its simplicity and has a nice heavy feel to it.
One very small annoyance: if you use the front USB slot on your computer - or any slot where the USB portion of the device is in view - the light may bother you. It's very bright and very blue - and it's on whenever you type or move the mouse. Thus, depending on what you're doing, it can be effectively blinking and quite distracting.
I love the thinness of the keyboard! And it's a really great product for being so cheap. I have two gripes with this product: a) The USB key turns a bright blue color when you are using this. If you have the USB key anywhere near your peripheral vision, this is a big distraction. I would love to turn it off but I haven't found out how to do that yet. b) The mouse clicking is LOUD.
So I've been using this keyboard and mouse combo for about an hour. I just unpacked it and set it up.
Very easy setup - the Keyboard is great - sleek, stylish, compact, easy to type on and is well built.
The mouse is the polar opposite. Although comfortable in my large hands, it just screams CHEAP. Its buttons are very loud and just feel cheap. And now, literally, 1 hour into using it, the left mouse button is not clicking properly. I have to click down hard. Defective? Yes, maybe the others are not going to have this problem.
But i've been working with mice for 16 years.. and this one is one of the cheapest poorly made ones i've seen.
If you really like the keyboard, buy it separately and get a different mouse.
Final annoyance, the dongle receiver has the brightest blue led light that flashes with every keystroke/mouse movement. Annoying as heck.
Although i like the keyboard, this ones' going back. I'm going to go with the new logitech setups that use the same micro receiver for mouse/keyboard. And since i have two laptops, the extra reciever can be used to hook up both!
I bought this keyboard because I liked its slim profile and its simplicity. The keys weren't easy to type on and the feeling of my nails scraping the material the keys were made of sent shivers down my spine. Additionally, it was not well constructed and seemed very cheaply made.
The mouse was fine, though it went through batteries extremely fast. I didn't like that it didn't have back/forward buttons or sideways scrolling.
The keyboard died after less than a year of use for no reason. I replaced it with the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000 and am much happier.
Intallation of this combo was a piece of cake.
Everything recognized no problems.
Than I started typing on this keyboard and I hated it.
They have 4 keys on the bottom left instead of 3 and I kept hitting the Windows key instead of the alt key. Drove me nuts.
I went to the internet and found Keytweak (Free). This program made it a snap to remap the keyboard. I turned that Windows Key into another "Left Alt" key and now I'm a happy camper.
Yes the Mouse makes a loud click but I don't find it any harder to click than any other mouse. Actually I decided the Mouse was two big and bulky and I have a extra USB port so I scrapped the mouse for a notebook model mouse
If I had to do it again I would have just bought the Keyboard.
I give it a 3 star instead of 5 because I had to remap the keys, it also doesn't have a led light telling you when cap locks or scroll is on. and finally I scrapped the mouse. - Mouse Combos - Keyboard And Mouse - Hp Keyboards - Wireless Keyboard'
