Pneumatics - nail gun, pneumatics

First time ever using a nail gun and I was imediately impressed. Not one Jam up and smooth operation. Light and very little recoil.

I did look at the dewalt brad nailer and I also love Dewalt tools, However this tool was favored a little more than the Dewalt. Price difference between the two tools was nothing to compare almost equal.

I can tell this tool will last. One more thing to add is Milwaukee has a warrenty for three more years than Dewalt. That is a total of five years. Dewalt only two. Milwaukee 7150-21 5/8-Inch to 2-1/8-Inch 18 Gauge Brad Nailer

Like other magnesium headed brad nailer's this gun produces almost no recoil. Another great feature, not publicized, is that it will not fire without nails (dry fire). The only minor problem for users of other guns is that the safety is behind the actual place the nail is fired from...but after a very short time you will be used to that. The no mar head on the safety is very good too. All in all a great gun...I ordered a second one already. [I am a finish carpenter by trade of 30+ years]

what can I say! This is the best air nailer I have ever owned! I have Senco's BEST finish nailer and it is a distant second fit, finish and feel to my Milwaukee brad nailer.

I only regret not being aware of the Milwauke line up before I purchased my Milwaukee!

This tool is a typical Milwaukee tool. Everyday you pick it up, it works. It has great power and effortlessly drives 2 inch brads in solid oak. I've been running on 80 - 85 psi which is more than reasonable. The depth adjustment is not precise, but most aren't. On balance, a good nailer at a cheap price when you consider how long it is likely to last. Many are cheaper, very few are better.

This is a great brad nailer. It is light and well balanced. I like the fact that the air discharge is out of the handle below the air intake. I have used it to build several cabinets and it is fun to use. I have not had a single mis-fire or had to hammer in a nail. It has a sequential fire mode which seems to work well, although I usually use the single fire mode. Awesome tool.

This nailer is all it said it would be. I am a contractor and have been useing a grip rite nailer. It would get into tighter places then the Milwakee but after every 50 nails you would have a jam. How nice it is not to have to un jam a gun. I have shot probably about 1500 nails already and never one jam how awseome. Now for the miner problem, when I got the nailer it didn't seem to always want o set the nail unless I had the gun kinda tiped forward it was like the safty would not go down far enough even after adjustment I had the problem. It might have been that my old nailer sat different but none the less I was disapointed. After messing with it awhile I was able to modifie the safty alittle higher and have not had a problem sence. I highly recomend this nailer.

I purchased this item with the Milwaukee angled finish nailer. As I mentioned in the finish nailer review the Milwaukee nailers are similiar in design to the Ridgid in my opinion. You will need to purchase and install an air fitting for this nailer. I installed a swivel connector similiar to the one on the Ridgid nailer which is available at most home and tool centers. The brad nailer is well balanced and has a magnesium housing. The unit comes with a nice cary case that holds your brads also. The operation is fine and what I would expect from a quality tool.

This was purchased to replace a Bostich which failed prematurely.

The unit is light weight and drives 2 1/2" nails in maple without effort.

All features are well engineered. Loading, setting depth, and jammed nail removal are all simple.

It also comes with a decent case.

Get a urethane hose to go with this and you might forget you're attached to a compressor.

This is the first nail gun I've ever used, but I think it's great. It's very light, easy to use, and doesn't jam. I used it to install baseboard, crown molding, and door/window casing. It made everything go so quick and easy. I used both the included 1.25" brads and also Stanley 1.75" brads also worked perfectly. The no-mar tip is outstanding. I used it with the MAC700 compressor from Makita (also great) that I bought on Amazon as well.

I think it's an excellent combination. It doesn't come with the 1/4" NPT connector like the Rigid gun, but you can pick one up at the home improvement stores for just over 2 bucks. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone. - Pneumatics - Brad Nailer - Brad Nailers - Nail Gun'

Iphone 4 - iphone4 case, iphone 4 case

I waited anxiously for Otterbox to release this case and ordered mine within minutes of receiving the "Defender Released" e-mail. I received the case on Friday and I must admit, it did not disappoint.

First impressions: The case is of great quality and a lot of detail went into making it compatible with all the OEM "accessories". The holster is among the best I've seen for a phone of this size and works perfectly with the case.

After carrying it for two days (and this is already my 3rd iPhone 4 case - I am rough on my phones): The case is without a doubt the most durable I've seen for the iPhone 4 and lives up to the reputation that Otterbox has built over the years.

Cons: The case does add considerable bulk to the phone and may not be perfect for pocket carriers. It does include a holster which works great and can rotate for vertical or parallel carrying of the phone.

Miscellaneous: I have no complaints really, but I am left to wonder if the silicone "flaps" that cover the earphone and USB plug-ins could have been a little more user-friendly. Sometimes they are frustrating to get back into their proper "closed" position.

Edited one month after using: I am still extremely happy with the case. I have dropped my phones a few times already and though the case is starting to show signs the abuse I have provided it the phone still looks pristine! I opened up the case this morning to clean the phone etc and to my surprise there wasn't much to clean. With cases I've owned in the past I would have a forest of lint, dust etc. that would trap itself between the case and the phone. The Otterbox has minimized that debris!

I am uploading several photos showing the difference between a "bare" iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4 in the Defender case so everyone can get an idea of how much "protection" and in turn "bulk" this case adds to the phone.

Edited to add: Amazon removed my pictures when the placed the phone back in a "pre-order" status, I will re-upload them again once they allow. I'm not sure why they state "pre-order" when it should state "Back-ordered, will deliver in xx to xx weeks", but I digress. OtterBox Defender Case for iPhone 4 (White/White, Fits AT&T iPhone)

Otterbox defender for my iPhone 3Gs was the best thing I ever did for that phone! It fell into and was completely submerged in a 5 gallon pot of BBQ sauce - and rinsed off with the sprayer in the sink. Phone continued to operate flawlessly!

As soon as I bought iPhone 4 - I immediately ordered an otterbox case for it. It took over a month to arrive and when it finally did - I could immediately tell it did not offer the same amount of protection as the Otterbox for the 3Gs.

I'm constantly fighting the rubber covering -- if I pull it out of my pocket I have to push it back into place all the way around the phone.

The screen protector is better -- the bubbles are gone from the previous version. I like that.

The flaps that cover the charger port and headphone jack suck! They never stay in place and to get them to lock down is a pain. Debris can easily infiltrate into the case through these openings. I find that I have to take the phone completely out of the case and clean the phone and the case more often than I ever did with the other phone/otterbox.

Maybe they were just in a hurry to get a case that would fit the quick arrival of iPhone4. I hope the case is revamped and the thought is completed. I really need and want the kind of protection and rugged durability that the other case provided for 3Gs.

Regardless of what I hate about this case, it's still the BEST case that you can put on the new iPhone 4 if you're hard on your phone. Just wish it was better...

**** 02/12 update: I bought an AT&T case to get one fast at a discount and it works fine until the price drops on the universal case. The Verizon silent mode button is partially covered so if you use silent mode a lot and have big fingers, you might want to wait or buy from the manufacturer. The headphone jack doesn't align quite right with my Verizon phone, but just open the silicone port. And now this is a genuine five star review. I really like this case. It is sturdy and protective, looks stylish, feels comfortably grippy and it was easy to install the phone. Box directions are minimal but Otterbox has a simple video that takes you through it. *****

I just called Otterbox and a very nice lady in Customer Service says they have a universal design ready to fit both AT&T and Verizon phones, to be released 02/10/11. I suppose Amazon will have these as well. Hope they do all the same colors.

Important to know because the Verizon iPhone has some ports and controls in a slightly different place than its AT&T sister and this case would not fit both phones.

Just thought you should know. Glad I did some research before I bought this one. Yes, I know this isn't a real review but not everyone reads comments. At least I'm not one of those tiresome people who posts a one star review because something went wrong with the shipping. - Iphone4 Case - Case - Iphone 4 Case - Iphone 4'

Tomb Raider

Love this movie and decided to find it on blu ray. however, it doesnt exist as a US version. you must buy the EU or European version. The Audio is German and English is the Second Option. It works perfectly fine on my PS3 and there are no problems playing it. Don't let the German written summary fool you, it works on any US Version PS3. Just make sure you pick the audio language as English instead of the default German. Tomb Raider-Cradle of Life (Blu-Ray)

To begin with this was a really well done movie at the time of its release. For some reason this second film in the series was never released here in the United States on blu-ray. What is available is the European version done in German. The english language version of this film is available through the menu and once I figured out how to turn off the German subtitles I found it very enjoyable (although some parts where they are describing locations are still in German and these could not be changed). Overall I was very satisfied with the movie. If however, a United States version became available, I would purchase that and replace this copy.

I will be returning my copy - I wasn't aware that the entire version would be in German - English is available as a second audio but it sounded muddied, and what I really needed was English subtitles for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired but only German was available, so that makes this a no-go for me. Otherwise shipping was fast and the product wasn't damaged in any way.

This European version Blu Ray of the Movie "Cradle of Life" is exceptional in its quality, there are no extras, featurettes, or bonus materials, but the quality, sound and dubbing are exceptional. The movie itself is almost identical to the first of the two Tomba Raider movies.'

Contractor Supply - cordless drills, dewalt

An excellent drill for those looking to spend about $70-90. While this drill seems expensive for a 9.6V model keep in mind it works as hard as similar priced 12V models. It is definitely a professional quality product. However, it does fall into that range where for a bit more money you get a 12V+ professional quality drill with more power and battery life. At a similar price point you get a 12V+ consumer drill that isn't really more powerful, is definitely bigger but offers better battery life.

I own the previous version of this drill, the DW926. The DW926 and the DC750 are the same but for the rubber grip surface and the great addition of a one handed chuck.

What's great about this drill? Well despite being small and light, it's reasonably powerful. I have had several cordless drills including this one, a DeWalt DC727 12V, Makita D6011 12V (the old school Makita cordless stick battery drill) and a Sears 12V ~$80 model (2 speed gearbox, not a super cheap 1 speed).

The little DeWalt has the about the same torque (200 in-lb) as my 12V Makita (234) or my Sears (225). Mind you it's not nearly as strong as my 12V DeWalt (350). At the same time the DeWalt is quite a bit more compact than the Sears or Makita models.

More volts doesn't always mean more power! Many people assume that battery voltage equates to how much power a drill has. That's just not true. It's more complex that that. Needless to say you can advertise big voltage and still have no power to speak of. Look at some of the cheap Black and Deckers (the maker of DeWalt) for examples of lots of volts but no torque.

So it can work just as hard as many of the consumer grade 12V models (harder than many 1 speed models). So what's the down side?

Well costs to some degree. If you can get this drill for say $70-90 it's good buy because the competing "home use" drills just aren't any more powerful. However, once you get to around $100+ the 12V+ models intended for contractors from DeWalt and other brands offer yet more power and in the case of DeWalt's own DC727 little increase in size or weight.

Battery life (the start that shines twice as bright...): Remember when I said this 9.6V was just as powerful as many home use type 12V drills like my Sears drill? Well there is a price you pay in battery life. The drill clearly trades battery life for power. My 12V Sears isn't really any more powerful but it lasts a lot longer on one battery. The DeWalt does come with two batteries but you may still use them faster than you charge them. So while this drill will work just as hard as a 12V or even some cheaper 14.4V drills it will run out of juice faster. That might give you pause if you are thinking about screwing in deck screws all afternoon.

In the end I really like the DC750. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this drill for medium duty jobs so long as the limited battery life isn't an issue. Otherwise I might suggest looking for a DC727. However, I would also suggest buyers consider stepping up to a 12V DeWalt for the extra battery life and power with little size increase or looking at something like the Sears 12V-14.4V line of home use drills. They are larger, chunkier, and hardly more powerful in the 12V case but they do have better battery life. Still, the DC750 a great little drill. DEWALT DC750KA 9.6-Volt 3/8-Inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kit

I've just bought a 2nd DeWalt 9.6V cordless drill to supplement my woodworking shop. My first is still going strong after over 6 years of use. The original batteries have just about died (I still have one good one) so rather than spend eighty-four dollars on two new batteries I spent about the same for a new drill kit that comes with two new batteries!

This drill is great for general purpose work and is small and lightweight enough to be a joy to use in tight places. Why lug around a beastly-size cordless drill when you don't have to? Only rarely have I found the 9.6V drill to be lacking in torque (I mostly drill in wood with 3/8" and smaller twist bits). If you need something with more speed and/or torque then consider the 12V (the upper speed of the 9.6V is 1,100 rpm vs. 1,400 rpm for the 12V).

Batteries recharge fast (less than 1 hour) but the ones for my newest drill seem to last only about 1/2 as long as the first batch did. And, they are NiCad so you need to make sure you top-off the charge if you've not used the drill in the past several DAYS. Short battery life between charges is my only complaint. The new drill models have a chuck lock which is most handy--you no longer have to hold the chuck still when loosening or tightening the chuck.

This is a great product from DeWalt and, except for the short batterly charge duration, I strongly recommend it.

I have been using the prior, discontinued Dewalt 9.6 volt version of this for many years. I am home DIY and the versatility and power is more than adequate for my needs. This new one replaces another brand which has needed replacement batteries or chargers during the same period of my use of the old Dewalt drill -- the old Dewalt is still going STRONG! One major advantage of the Dewalt batteries and charger is that I can leave the second battery in the charger until needed. Just replace the exhausted battery after use with a fully-charged battery, put the exhausted battery in the charger and forget it until it is needed. NO CHARGE AND REMOVE CHARGER AFTER SEVERAL HOURS! GREAT!

[...]

This is the little brother to the - DEWALT DC727KA Heavy Duty 12-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless 3/8-Inch Drill/Driver - and probably simply does not have the torque to really need a 3/8-inch chuck.

That said, this is a perfect little drill/driver for general home use - even a novice will not find it intimidating to use. A wide clutch range and good speed control means the driver can be used with perfect control by a careful user, even if inexperienced.

The unit is well balanced - though honestly, the uses for which this unit will shine are not likely to involve repetitive motion stress.

I have given this unit only four stars, due to the battery lifetime of this range of units, though for occasional use this will not likely be a problem, and the charger is reasonably fast.

Hope this helps.

(This is being added a few years after: battery life really is the bugaboo of this line of tools! The replacements cost as much as the full kit!!!) - Keyless Chuck - Cordless Drills - Dewalt - Cordless Screwdriver'

Replacement Battery - laptop batteries

I'm not completely certain, but I think this battery lasts longer than my original battery that came with my mac. this item was a lifesaver for me, seeing as how my original battery actually expanded and the glue failed to hold it together after a point. Now i'm back to using my laptop away from the charger with a brand-now, long lasting battery Superb Choice New Laptop Replacement Battery for APPLE MacBook Pro 17" MA611J/A MA611KH/A MA611LL/A MA611X/A MA897*/A MA897J/A MA897LL/A MA897X/A MB166*/A MB166B/A MB166J/A MB166LL/A MB166X/A, Replacement for A1189 MA458 MA458*/A MA458G/A MA458J/A;68 wh

Absolutely not worth the savings. Can't hold a charge for more than a couple hours. I had high hopes after reading the other review but unfortunately I can't recommend this product. Save your money and buy the real deal.

****UPDATE*****

If I could give negative stars I would. I bought this mid-September 2010 (5 months ago) and it is dead as of yesterday, January 21, 2011. Dead as in will not hold a charge period, useless, complete waste of money. Save your money, really!

The item was shipped promptly and came faster than expected... but sadly as seems to be the case with a lot of third party uncertified apple products this battery is sub-par. As compared with the apple battery it doesn't last near as long and the time remaining indicator changes very frequently due to the random power associated with the battery. But, it works and it's much much cheaper so choose your poison.

Like many others, my MacPro battery started to come apart and get hot after 4 years of heavy use. I also didn't feel like spending about $140 ($129 plus tax) for an Apple replacement battery. So, I shopped around and found the one on Amazon. I looked at the battery specs and they are similar to the Apple battery for about half the cost. I have always been weary of 3rd party products, especially batteries. However, shipping was on time. No problems with the fit and finish of the battery when i got it and it has about an 80% charge. Looks like the old one (not as Appley) and it installs and removes with no problems. As far as performance, If I lower the brightness, I can get around 2.75-3 hours out of this battery with a full charge versus close to 4 hours with the original battery. Hey, at 1/2 the price, I'll take it. However, as many pointed out time will tell 8-12 month down the road. For the purest, this battery won't do. But if you're here @ Amazon, price matters. For me, it has been worth the price. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars because the color is a bit off.

Pay more than $120 for a battery from Apple for my MacBook Pro... I don't think so. It was only a few years old, but metamorphosing into an expanding blob, and probably a risk of a fire.

I search through Amazon's inventory came up with the superb choice alternative. About $60, it's the same animal, and might even be a little better. But now I no longer have to keep my Mac plugged in a wall.

I don't know why I waited so long. I guess it was spending money on something I just had not long before.

Regardless, my fear of this 3rd party vendor was eliminated with the prompt delivery of the exact correct item.

Back in business with my 'new' old MacBook Pro 17".

Satisfied with this purchase

So far so good, seems to be every bit as good as the Apple product at 1/2 the price. Charged it up and am working on Battery 1 hour in and with 80% capacity remaining. Fit seems good, looks identical to the Apple Battery and works like one as well. The test of time will tell, but so far as expected. PLan to check in over time.

I was a little concerned about some of the reviews here, but honestly, the reviews on apple's website for factory batteries were even worse. I figured I'd rather spend about half price and see what happens. The good news is that the battery works. Full charge capacity is 6277(mAh), a tad under spec (6400), but pretty good for the price. On first charge I ran a DVD a couple of times to see how long it would go. It lasted about 3.5 hours, so no complaints. The real test will be how long it lasts in 6-12 months, but as long as it doesn't explode like the factory one, I'm not too worried about it. The battery will never be mistaken for stock. It pops into place, but the fit is not Steve Jobs smooth. I personally don't care, but some mac folks are a bit more uptight about that sort of thing.

I'd recommend this one for the deal.

So, like many other MacBook Pro owners, I'm now a member of the my-battery-swelled-up-like-a-bag-of-microwave-popcorn club. The Apple store was no help, offering to sell me an OEM replacement for one hundred and twenty nine dollars plus tax. I took a gamble on this aftermarket battery, based on 3 out of 4 of the reviews being glowing. I'm glad I did.

I received the battery today, basically fully charged. It fits well into the case, and looks indistinguishable from the OEM battery it replaces (or at least like the OEM battery used to look, before it went all pufferfish on me). System Profilers indicates that this battery's manufacturer is "SMP," the same as the OEM battery. coconutBattery (handy free App, look it up) indicates that its Design capacity is 6300 mAh, and it arrived with a current capacity of 98% - 6128 mAh.

I ran it through one complete discharge cycle, and here's where it loses a star - shortly after receiving the "you're on backup power" message, with the power icon indicating 6% charge remaining, the laptop lost power, and when plugged in, booted up from shutdown. That's not ideal, but I'm pleased at the level of power it provides and the 50% lower price than the OEM battery. I'll update the review if anything else goes wrong, but if you're on the fence about this battery like I was, I'd recommend it, as I'd buy it again. - Laptop Batteries'

5th Generation - 16gb, 6th generation

The iPod Nano update on September 1, 2010 is arguably the most dramatic since the iPod Nano moniker was introduced by Apple five years ago.

Several colors are being offered in both 8 GB & 16 GB capacities.

More than an update, this is a new product that simply retains the iPod Nano name. It gains a significant feature, but loses several others.

The big deal is the touch interface on the newest iPod Nano. iPod Nano users will now be "touching," their music as iPod Touch and iPhone users have before them. The click wheel is gone. To find your music, you select a category from the Nano's menu such as "Playlists," or "Artists," and select from there. Less convenient or more convenient than a click wheel? Honestly, about equal. The screen is indeed small, but not unusable.

FM Radio has been retained as well as the Fitness aspects with the ability to use Nike + or simply the built in pedometer. However, the form factor will be a major benefit for those working out with the Nano. The previous Nano required an armband to keep it on you while working out, jogging, or the like. Not always comfortable, an additional expense, etc. However, with this new small, square form factor that need is gone. Now, we can simply "clip," the Nano onto us, with the built in clip, and run to our listening content. A bigger deal than you might think.

The downside? Features have been removed from Nano. The screen is much smaller than the previous generation. Therefore, playback of video content from iTunes is gone. Nano no longer plays video, which was a feature added three years ago. Secondly, last year, Nano added a small video camera to record low quality video, which could be played back on the Nano's screen or synced with iTunes and viewed on your computer. That feature is gone too. The device is too small now for a camera or to watch video. This new generation iPod Nano has many exciting new features, but buyers must be aware that it is no longer a video player. It is something new. Those wishing to play video on an iPod must choose an iPod Touch.

My opinion on this change? Honestly, did I ever watch video on the iPod Nano's screen? No. For me, while they kept trying to make the screen larger, it was simply too small to enjoy more than a once a year video. Likewise, the camera was simply not high enough quality to keep yourself entertained by using on a regular basis. It became a feature unused by many.

The iPod Nano has changed and gone back to being an exceptional music player. There is nothing here you do not need to enjoy music. However, the display and touch interface brings the 21st century "touch," that Apple has made so popular to a more affordable device. The touch function will be limited here to simply selecting songs or bringing up the clock, but nevertheless, touch has made its way to the Nano.

I'm most thankful that the Nano has indeed retained the DOCK CONNECTOR. The dock connector is key to use with iPod accessories such as docks, speaker docks, and built in car iPod connectors. The nano is so diminutive that if you plug it into the factory iPod kit of an automobile, the cable's dock connector will look nearly bigger than the Nano itself. Not a negative, just amusing. Nevertheless, the dock connector is there, and you will be able to use the device in such applications, and that was a significant decision by Apple. Users want and need the dock connector. It is there on this iPod Nano, but still missing from the Shuffle due to its even more diminutive size.

This 16 GB version is the largest size Apple offers in the Nano. It offers no additional functionality over the 8GB, but features twice the storage. Choose the one best for you. 16 GB is great if you have a large music collection. We should all remember though that with Nano no longer doing Video or Storing Pictures, the storage is exclusively for music. This makes 8 GB and 16 GB more appropriate size offerings as music takes up much less storage than video.

Overall, Apple has removed video (both playback and recording) from this iPod Nano. However, it's an equalling good music player. Navigation of music is now completed via touch, which works effectively despite the small screen. It's really hard to believe so much can fit into such a small device and I believe everyone will be a bit shocked when they open up the Nano the first time and see it's size yet primary function as an effective music player retained. The newest Nano brings a nearly Shuffle like size, but yet retains the functionality (touch, clip, dock connector) that serious music lovers and those who use the Nano while working out, demand. Apple iPod nano 16 GB Graphite (6th Generation) NEWEST MODEL

But it's not a Nano. Once you get that, the rest is easy. It's also a bit of a mixed bag.

**UPDATE** Apple, apparently in response to complaints, has released a Version 1.1 Software Update that

1) Now allows users to turn the Nano COMPLETELY OFF by holding down the Wake/Sleep button for several seconds. No more 'it only goes to sleep'.

2) Sets the Wake/Sleep button as a 'Next Song' button- double-click it to advance through your songs or radio station presets (that's default; it can be set to Play/Pause on double-click instead, or you can turn off double-click functionality altogether).

This change should improve the Nano's battery life as well- from awful to merely BAD- as you'll be less dependent on the power-gobbling touchscreen to advance songs/stations.

Due to these improvements, I'm provisionally upping my review rating to three stars (battery life and pricing/value-for-money remain issues). End Update. ***

A lot of ppl are confused about the radical re-invention of the Nano, not realizing that the Nano is, essentially, dead. The Nano's mission was to be a compact iPod that still did some higher-end stuff such as video and picture-taking- a nice portable 'media' player. No more.

The new Nano, aka Super Shuffle, is focused on a different task entirely, and much the same one as the regular Shuffle- the gym. To that end, Apple radically reduced the size and gave it an integrated clip a la the regular Shuffle. It is now 'wearable', aka the 'Shuffle with a screen' that some have wanted for a long time.

The downside is that others loved the 'true' Nano, and now they can't have one, unless they go running for the old 5th gen models before they're gone. Some will wonder why it was an 'either/or' thing for Apple, i.e. couldn't the Super Shuffle and 'true Nano' exist side-by-side?

Others will say the Super Shuffle is inadequate even for the gym. "I don't want to look at a SCREEN to switch songs or change the volume. Lame!", they'll say.

To be fair though, you usually don't HAVE to look at the screen, because

- The Super Shuffle has physical volume buttons. They're small, but still easy to use. And as of Software Update 1.1, you can now double-click the Wake/Sleep button to advance songs- a MUCH needed improvement.

- It has the 'Shake To Shuffle' feature- literally shake it to shuffle to another song. But, as implemented, STS is inconvenient to use- see notes @end of review.

- It supports VoiceOver. But to use *all* VO features requires the Apple Earphones With Remote & Mic, which are NOT included (Apple either wants another $30, or still hasn't solved the sweat/moisture issues those 'phones have had in the past).

So, some issues aside, the 6G Nano/SS now works fine in its role as a 'gym' Shuffle with a screen.

Features-wise, it does photo-viewing (but not taking), audiobooks, podcasts (minus any video), voice memos (w/the optional 'phones w/Remote & Mic), is a pedometer, and does FM radio besides. And radio stations do sound surprisingly clear in any halfway decent reception area. Even low-power college stations usually come in clean- a big plus, since they often have more innovative music programming than commercial FM.

It also retains the 30-pin dock connector, so you have access to the universe of iPod accessories - for some examples, see 'iPod Nano 6G Docking Options' on YouTube. This is all well and good.

So MY BEEF with the Super Shuffle isn't that it killed the 'true' Nano (enough demand = they'll bring it back), but rather the level of 'milking it' Apple's decided to go with here. While I own & use one, it just isn't worth an additional $100+ MORE than a regular Shuffle.

They do much the same thing, after all- the features it adds to the Shuffle are fairly minor (for example, ever try to get consistent FM reception inside a large concrete building, aka your typical gym? Best be near a window.)

Sure, you get the touchscreen, which is sharp/clear, fun to use, and almost eerily resistant to smudges/fingerprints (nice). But said T-screen is also *really* small - going larger would've made it less 'wearable' - which compromises readability/ease-of-use. Worst of all, it scarfs WAY too much battery juice (see notes @end of review).

It does give you 6GB more storage than the Shuffle (though that cost Apple < $10 to put in there). But a 'gym' Shuffle doesn't really need to hold 2,000 songs (4,000 if you opt for the 16GB), nor does the tiny screen lend itself well to navving through all that. The capacity and price points are Nano legacies, but as we know, this ain't a Nano.

All in all, the advantages don't add up to the price charged, in terms of value provided. You can buy THREE regular Shuffles for the same money.

Now, a 4GB model for $99-$129 would've made sense. Hitting that price point next time would be great, as that's about what a 'Super Shuffle' is really worth.

Here's hoping we see that *and* a new 'true' Nano once the 7th gen rolls around. Sure, a Shuffle with a screen is COOL- just not cool enough to justify shelling out $150-180 (as I found out).

I do want to dig ya Super Shuffle, but the pricing/value-for-money is your Kryptonite. =[

Also, as mentioned, the battery life is very 'touchy' (see notes below) and pretty disappointing, and there's a few minor bugs & interface issues (also see below).

Update: Got bit by a bug (on 1.0 Software). My Nano would endlessly loop the same song over and over. A 'Restore to Factory Settings' fixed it, but still... strange.

Note #1 (Colors): If you buy online, be aware that the casing colors are more muted than they appear in pics. The blue Nano, for example, is a smoky, very pale blue in person. The exception is the Product Red model (which is Apple Store-only): it's a VERY vivid red in real life. But the other, more understated colors aren't bad, and are arguably more 'grown up'.

Note #2 (Battery Life): The batt life on the 6G Nano is VERY dependent on how much you use the touchscreen. Playing around with it a lot- which is EXACTLY what you'll do when you first get one- just KILLS the batt juice. No way around it: the touchscreen, while fun, is also a HUGE BATTERY HOG. =[

The screen sleep behavior worsens the problem, by keeping the screen lit for far too long after a touch. This is NOT changeable in Settings either. WTH?

Thus, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND putting the screen to sleep MANUALLY via the Wake/Sleep button EVERY time you're done touchscreening- don't let the screen turn itself off, it's VERY SLOW to do so. Your battery life will thank you.

Btw, Apple's claimed 'UP TO 24 hours of battery life' apparently refers to just playing music, with no screen usage. That's NOT realistic, since you DO have to use the screen for some things. Be especially careful with the touchscreen radio tuner, as taking too much time looking for that 'perfect' station is just. pure. battery. kryptonite. (Tip: Set up your radio presets early. Turn off Live Pause too- some ppl report batt life issues w/it).

For myself, doing 90-minute workouts with a mix of radio/regular music, I take 25-30% off the battery on avg - so about 5-6 hrs of battery life, real-world. The 1.1 Software Update may up this a bit, as you can then just use the button to advance songs. Be aware that the Battery Life icon is VERY schizo- 1st usage after a charge may read as taking almost NOTHING off the battery, while a similar but later use can read as taking HALF the battery. Bottom line: You'll be recharging frequently. Reducing Screen Brightness may help slightly.

Note #3 (Bugs, Interface issues): i.e. 'Things I hope Apple fixes in a Software Update'.

- In low-but-usable radio signal areas, you'll get lots of erroneous 'No Radio Signal- Please plug in headphones' messages. I get these WITH my headphones plugged in, listening to a station that's coming in a bit quietly but just fine. =[

- MANY ppl blamed the poor battery life on the fact that you couldn't manually turn the Nano completely OFF (it'd Sleep instead). This is fixed in the 1.1 Software Update, but, as you know by now, it's the TOUCHSCREEN that's the true batt life culprit. =[

- If you set the text to 'White on Black' in Accessibility (which improves contrast/readability/looks cool), all icons & wallpapers get turned into strange photo negatives of themselves. Whaaa? If this is an OS limitation, then at least provide 'negative' wallpapers & icons that look good with the feature turned on.

- The Battery Life meter and Time should be visible on ALL screens (such as 'Now Playing'). Having to nav back or 'hold down to jump to Home screen' is annoying/slow, and wastes power.

- As mentioned, the backlight power-saving needs a lotta work.

- The 'Shake To Shuffle' feature bears rethinking. First off, it's iffy 'til you figure out the technique- 2 short, FAST shakes in any direction, *with the screen ON* (1 can work, but the % is lower).

Many gym ppl/runners won't like this, though. They'll wish STS worked with the screen OFF, so they can just reach over & shake without having to do a no-look Wake/Sleep button jab. Apple's worried about accidental triggerings, but you'd like to see a better solution than this.

But Apple does deserve props and thanks for the 1.1 Software Update. Hopefully even more Nano-love is upcoming, beginning with better power-saving.

Note #4 (Protecting Your Hearing): Volume Limit in Settings is your friend. Correct procedure: Set your max volume limit w/it while in a QUIET room. At the gym, noisy treadmills/equipment can easily make you crank your volume to the point of causing permanent hearing damage, given enough exposure time. Volume Limit is a hearing-saver. Use it. - 16gb - Nano - 6th Generation - Ipod'

Memory Upgrade - memory, 2 gb

I was very lucky to order this item on sale for $19.95, on February 28th. I choose standard US mail delivery, and was given a delivery estimate of March 8th. Well, I received it on March 3rd, and installed it with no effort at all. It was instantly recognized, and is working in tandem, with the identical module, which I installed in my first self built computer. This RAM has always performed flawlessly, and for twenty bucks, less than a quarter of the cost to fill up van, you simply cannot go wrong. I have used Kingston for a number of years, and could not be more satisfied. For everyone who is chugging along with 256 MB or 512 MB, this is the cheapest way to increase the performance of your computer. Do a little research on this item. I did. I could have driven to a local national electronics chain store, who shall go unnamed, and the same item was almost $90.00. The order process was quick and easy. Even at the current price, it is a huge bargain. Props to Kingston and amazon.com

Mathew Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 667MHz PC2-5300 DDR2 Desktop Memory (KVR667D2/2GR)

Added to a Dell D9150, with other RAM present: 2x512MB and 1x1GB SIMM.

Don't forget if your are upgrading and adding to a system with slower RAM: (I forgot the customary issue at first).

This SIMM was faster than the other memory on board, and when placed in the slot 1 (2nd slot), system would not boot. Easy fix: I moved it to slot 0 (1st slot) and moved the original 1GB slower speed to slot 1, the system booted fine.

Price just can't be beat but it was dead on arrival. I already have one of them in my system and wanted to add another one so I know it was the right one. Tried it in two different machines and it was dead. System wouldn't boot and no messages appeared. Amazon could not have made the exchange process easier though! Let me print my own postage paid label and shipped a replacement before I even got the bad one out the door back to them. Replacement arrived in about 5 days and it worked perfectly.

It's not the best. It's not the fastest. It's good enough.

Some people want the best things money can buy, so they will spend thousands of dollars in the best equipment: gold-plated cables, memory covered with enough metal to shield them from any electromagnetic interference, chassises made of weapon-grade titanium alloy. Some people need stuff that just works, and if it's cheap, the better.

To upgrade the performance of a computer, there's no better thing that invest in some memory. More RAM means the computer doesn't have to access the hard disk that often, and memory is way faster than hdds. If you have 512M, get 1 or 2G and things will improve a lot. If you have 4G the machine will fly! And that's usually the limit of the past generation computers, by the way. I'm happy with 1G, and my embeddable computers work very well with it. Just be careful when you get your memory, if it needs DDR2, get this, if you need DDR, keep looking.

This is a budget-grade memory. It does it's job. It may be not as fast as premium-grade memory, but if that means you have to pay four of five times what this one costs, just so save fifteen seconds of processing time each day, well, thank you very much, I'll get this one. It is slim, and it seems fragile. It is fragile, but you won't use it in an application that requires a fault-free enviroment to work. This one will resist the usual conditions and tests, but if you will run intensive calculations, it will overheat. I can't remember the last time I had to do intensive calculations in my computer, and I'm a geek that loves to rip and recode dvds to watch'em in my ipod. That's not intensive nowadays. Reordering ten trillion records from a to z, that's intensive.

So this thing will do the job, and do it well, and do it cheap. Get it. Unless, of course, you prefer to spend more money and get almost the same product, but gold-plated.

Perfect addition to your HP MediaSmart Server. Only thing is the stick is about half the height of standard RAM so it's a little more difficult to insert into the slot without scratching up your fingers. Other than that, it works as advertised.

I am quite satisfied of the product except for the picture is wrong and the product delivered was not what was in the picture the chip is actually about half the size of what the picture shows and with my large hands could barely get it into the slot, however once I did the product runs fine and I have had no problems other than the one thing I mentioned. I highly recommend this product.

My husband and son worked together recently to build a gaming computer. My son just had his 12th birthday and this additional memory was one of his gifts. He was thrilled with it, and we were thrilled with the price. My husband compared prices locally and on mail-order and this was by far the best deal. It arrived quickly in secure packaging and has been installed and is working well. - Memory - Kingston - 2 Gb - Memory Upgrade'
