Great Protection - captivate, case

I just got a Galaxy S phone and put a defender case on it as soon as they were available. I intend to put a defender case on every smart phone I get from now on. While running through a parking lot my iPhone, housed in a defender case, slipped out of my hand as I was swinging it forward. The phone flew though the air past about 5 cars and bounced off the ground. Not one bit of damage to the phone and I had to look hard to even find a mark on the case. Over 2+ years I have dropped it several times since then and still no damage at all to the phone and the case looks almost brand new. A hit directly on the face of the phone would damage it although the case does have a raised lip around the face that provides about as much protection as can be and still make it usable. I put a defender case on my iPod touch after that also. OtterBox Defender Case for Samsung Captivate

Good product. Almost perfect. When installed I have a little problem with one of the buttons on the phone and the rubber liner around the outer case has to occasionally be refitted. I would not let this discourage you from buying the phone. The impact resistance this case provides is awesome. If you have a problem with any of the lower buttons not responding when depressed then line some small pieces of duck tape inside the lower portion of the case to create a filler which should recess the case from the button so you can get more finger on the button so it will work. I hope you enjoy the case as much as I do.

Good protection. The silicone is not too sticky, slides in and out of pocket easily. It does ad some bulk to the phone, but the additional bulk is worth it for the additional protection, imho. Belt holster works, but is bulky because of the size of the captivate itself. The clever design of the holster makes minimal increase over the size of the phone.

I want to preface this review by saying that if you are the kind of person that drops things often that you should definitely get this case. However, the case is quite large and if you have larger hands, like myself, trying to use the 4 buttons at the bottom just isn't going to happen. Everytime that I tried to hit one of the buttons at the bottom it it always hit the search button instead. To summarize, if you drop things get it, it definitely protects the phone, otherwise it makes the phone harder to use.

Last week I purchased a Samsung Captivate smart-phone from AT&T. I knew I had to get more than just a carrying case for the phone. I am a carpenter for a commercial builder and in my opinion there is no harsher environment for a piece of technology. I read dozens of reviews for dozens of cases. I kept coming back to the Defender by Otterbox. It is not just a case/cover. It truly is a system. The only negative feedback I found in regards to this case is that the Home buttons located at the bottom of the phone are partially covered by the case. This can be frustrating because you have to really have to press the button just right, and at the right angle to get a response. Now I knew all this about the case before I purchased it because of reviews like this by people who own it.

I give the Otterbox Defender Case for Samsung Captivate (5) Stars

PROS:

The screen protector (plastic film) was high quality and cut perfectly to fit the screen.

The hard plastic shell fit the phone perfectly and snapped together nicely.

The Soft rubber skin fits like a glove.

The USB port and Headphone jack are completely covered and still accessible

The overall design, fit, finish, and functionality met or exceeded my expectations

CONS:

The Home button issue. I did not deduct any stars for this particular drawback because I knew about the issue before I purchased it and after using this in the field for a week I can honestly say I would not change a thing. The Samsung Captivates 'Home' buttons are located at the very bottom edge of the phone and are not all that big to begin with. This case provides the protection I demand for my investment and after a week I can access the home buttons with little frustration.

<END>

I own this case and have removed it from my phone. The case encroaches on the function buttons(home, back, etc..) at the base of the phone. It makes nearly impossible to use these buttons and becomes a headache quick. The rubber also isn't very stiff... seems weaker than the iPhone models, it tends to peel back just from pulling it in and out of your pocket. Seems like they rushed this design out without actually attempting to use it on the phone. Don't waste your time on this cover it will just give you headache as you try to use the home and back buttons.

I used my Defender case for the samsung galaxy s captivate, and it fit like crap, the dust protectors are hard to pop out, and the case fit terrible, also the biggest issue for me is that the case makes it difficult to use the bottom buttons. This one needs to go back to otterbox for some re-testing, because its junk. This case will now sit in my box of junk for eternity. - Defender - Case - Captivate - Samsung'
