Droid Incredible - dash mount, evo
This Kensington "Universal Windshield/Vent Car Mount" is one of the handiest gadgets I have come across in a lone time! This well made device allows one of my smartphones (my personal EVO or my work BlackBerry 8330) to be mounted on the window or clipped into a vent for easy access and visibility. Here are my observations:
+ Good Materials; while mostly plastic, this is well made and heavy enough to give me confidence to trust my expensive equipment in it
+ Long Neck on Window Holder; gives the ability to position it at an optimal viewing place, even on deep windshields (like on my van)
+ Strong Suction Cup on Window Holder; this draws a good, solid vacuum and resisted my testing attempts to pull it off
+ Handy Vent Mount; included for states where window mounts are not legal (California and Minnesota are listed in the instructions), but I like it because it is fairly small can be easily carried in my PC case for use in rental cars when traveling
+ Rotatable; both mounting options allow the device to be rotated 360 degrees, which is handy when using the EVO as a GPS
+ Fits All of My Devices; my EVO, BlackBerry, and iPod Touch fit well, even in their cases
I was lucky enough to pick this up on a "Gold Box" sale but am seriously considering picking up a second one, even if it is full price.
Highly Recommended!
CFH Kensington K39217US Universal Windshield/Vent Car Mount for Smartphones (Black)
I was not able to use the a/c vent option due to my car's vents having movement up and down. However, I tried to suction cup option on the windshield and it was long enough for me to use it without having to reach far. It has allowed me to be more productive and use my HTC EVO without having to take my eyes off the road. The adjustable feature to hold the phone can easily handle the very large EVO without a problem. I highly recommend this product.
Caution to those who own an Increadible, the holder blocks the hole for the charger, so its not easy to charge while driving. This is a pain when you go on long trips and want to use the navigation.
Also, the vent clip was too heavy for the vents in my car. I still use it, but that vent aims down the whole time.
On the plus side, I found it to hold the phone very well, no wiggle room. Which is great because no one wants a cell to go airborne if you hit the breaks or a big bump.
I bought this for my EVO and after messing with a few days the only drawback I notice is that there is considerable vibration on the windshield mount holder that is annoying. It can make it hard to look at your phone and read GPS navigational directions and such. This can be reduced by having contact of the bottom of the phone holder with your vehicle's dashboard. I notice the other reviewers don't mention this so perhaps mine has a defect. My car doesn't have a rough ride to it that will contribute to the vibration (2008 lancer). On the positive sides I like how the holder rotates for landscape viewing and the quick release mechanism works well. The padding is also nice to prevent scratching to your phone. However I'm undecided on keeping this and may return the product for a refund.
I ordered this car mount for my iPhone 4 five days ago, since I didn't need the dock accessory (my car's head unit is already iPod/iPhone ready). It arrived through DHL today, halfway around the world (Philippines - Priority International Courier only, it had a delay, since it got shipped to the wrong facility, but it still arrived a day earlier than expected).
It's really a very solid Car Mount. Feels and looks very well-made. I tried using this inside my vehicle, using both mounts each time. I preferred using the vent mount more, since it is less of a distraction than the suction cup windshield mount. Nevertheless, the suction cup is very well made and definitely secures my phone. It won't budge, no matter how much force I exert on it. I definitely appreciate the two types of mounts provided -which definitely provides me more versatility in whichever vehicle I choose. Heck, I could even leave one mount on one vehicle (vent) and mount the cradle on another (windshield suction cup)! The one-push quick release is definitely a nice touch.
Overall, I am definitely a very satisfied customer. It's definitely everything I wanted in a car mount. :)
I bought this mount for my Droid Incredible. I really like it. I use the suction mount and not the vent mount.
It is very sturdy and the suction has never come off while driving (unlike my suction mount for my Garmin).
I use landscape mode which is nice, but it will do either.
And taking it off is really quick.
I would highly recommend this to anyone with an Incredible.
So much so, that I am buying one for my wife for her Samsung Jack (because the other mount we bought didn't fit it.)
My only complaint would be that when I have the power plugged in, the way it sits, the side pad sometimes holds down the volume down button, which has sometimes led me to not realize that my GPS sound is off.
But that doesn't happen every time, and it isn't a big deal. - Mounting Kits - Iphone - Evo - Dash Mount'
