Laptop Battery Chargers - dell, inspiron

This purchase taught me one thing and one thing only: An AC Adapter and a CHARGER are (apparently) two totally different things, even though they look EXACTLY the same and even have the same model numbers written all over them.

This does not charge my laptop. It apparently doesn't charge ANYONE's laptops. I have an Inspiron 1525. This adaptor does keep my laptop on, but it does not charge the battery. Well, what's the point, then? Why would i want to leave my battery stuck at 35% all day? Waste of money, unless you hate your battery for some reason.

That said, the company who sold me this actually offered to refund my money, which was very nice of them. I declined, and i just keep the adapter around just in case i might need to keep my laptop on and i don't feel like charging either of my batteries (which is, by the way, stupid).

UPDATE: Someone commented on my review that this product's description never says that it's a charger. Fair enough. It also doesn't say that it's NOT a charger, which is misleading. And if you're like most people, when you need to replace your CHARGER, you will likely read the model number from your existing charger, and type it into the search bar. This "AC Adapter" will come up on the list because it has the same model number. Defend the company all you want...this is meant to mislead customers and increase sales.

By the way, the SAME commenter (in a moment of utter brilliance) also said that there must be something wrong with my battery, since this Adapter doesn't charge it. Wait...i thought you said it wasn't a charger. Make up your mind son!

Anyway, i replied in the comments if you really want to see my response. NEW Laptop AC Adapter for Dell Inspiron 1520 1521 1525

After reading many of the reviews I went ahead and order this AC adapter anyway. It is to replace the factory original on a Dell Inspiron 1525. So far, with two weeks of use, it has been fine. Powers the laptop. Charges the laptop. In short, it does what you would expect.

I dropped one star from my rating because the cord from the brick to the laptop is a bit on the short side. An extra foot or two would have been fine.

It will be interesting to see how long this unit lasts. Based upon the reviews, it seems that many of these fail within a few months. On the other hand, if you go read the reviews for the factory unit from Dell you'll find that many people have failures within a year. So, $6.50 for a unit that may or may not fail within a few months, or $60 for a unit that may or may not fail within a year. Do the math. Even if you buy one of these units every couple of months it would still be cheaper than buying a factory unit every year or so. Heck buy two or three so that you have spares on hand.

The really sad part is that all these units, regardless of their source, seem to be crap. But one really doesn't have a choice. You have to buy what fits your laptop.

I found out the hard way that this device will not charge your Dell, only run it. Was I being stupid? I'm a software engineer and even I didn't know such things existed. That's $18 down the drain - not much, but I guess I got what I paid for.

I bought this item thinking it was a great deal, and for about 3 weeks or so I was happy with it. Then the cord started getting finicky and only charging my computer some of the time. There was no rhyme or reason to it but most of the time it would keep my computer going while it was plugged in but not actually charge it. Then last week it started making my mouse flip out, as another reader mentioned. My computer is now impossible to use while it's plugged in, and I can't even leave it to charge and then come back and use it on battery power because it doesn't actually charge.

My advice is to just spring for the regular dell cord- it may be more expensive but if I have to buy a new one of these every month it's going to get just as expensive really quick.

my charger only supplies power, but does not recharge the battery. i have to keep it plugged in at all times. i have to borrow my friend's Dell charger every time i want to get it back up to 100% so i can take my laptop somewhere without a socket.

I bought this product when my last dell charger stopped charging. It worked for a while, but then the connection between the extension and the AC adapter failed and is now useless. I don't suggest purchasing this product.

While I did not have the problem of the adapter not charging my battery, I did have the problem of this piece of junk only lasting 7 months. That's about the same amount of time that my actual Dell adapter lasted as well. This charger was under $20 with shipping included, but when you have to buy another one 7 months later, how much are you really going to save constantly replacing it. Not to mention the headache of not being able to use your laptop for days while you wait for the cord to ship. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. - Dell Inspiron Adapter - Inspiron - Dell - Adapter'
