Usb Wireless Adapter - samsung linkstick, 802 11n
I bought this adapter from CablesOnline because I read from many websites that this Intellinet Wireless-N USB Adapter - 523974 would work with the Samsung TVs and BD players and it would cost only half the price of the Samsung WIS09ABGN LinkStick Wireless LAN Adapter. Sure enough, right after I plugged it into the USB wireless port on the back of the Samsung BD-C5500, the player popped up a message telling me a Samsung wireless adapter was plugged in and it asked me if I wanted to set up the wireless connection. This adapter uses the Ralink RT2870 + RT2820 chipset so I believe other adapters with these 2 chipsets would work as well and when I googled RT2870+RT2820, I found this adapter to be the cheapest. I tested the adapter on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate with the latest driver downloaded from ralinktech dot com and it worked excellent, too (270Mbps all the time). I also love the super fast shipping and the excellent packaging from CablesOnline (thanks!). I highly recommend this adapter as an excellent and cost saving alternative to the costly Samsung wireless adapters. I hope my info will help others. (**The one star review is not for the quality of this device, more as a notice to it not being compatible with samsung devices**)
I think I know why every one after January 2011 is having problems with this adapter and their Samsung products. It seems as though Intellinet has switched their product but kept the same model number. I too read the reviews and bought this for my c5500 blu ray player or c650 tv and neither worked. When I went back and looked there are actually 2 models of this thing! One has a square end and one has a round end. The one that worked for everybody seems to have the square end, and the new one that doesn't work for anyone has the round end. Seems pretty shady to make a different product but keep the same model number if you ask me. I'm going to try and confirm this by purchasing the square end model at micro center to see. Although I'm pretty sure it is. I'll update when I find out.
**Update**
Went to Micro Center to pick one up and they only had one of the square end versions left, but someone had stolen the dongle and left the box on the shelf. Just my luck. Either way I wouldn't trust ordering this model anymore. Sounds like the only other option is the Rosewill RNX-N1. The D-Link DWA-140 may also work as I searched and found it had the same chipset as the Samsung and the Rosewill but its not really that much cheaper depending where you go. Its not really worth the hassle anymore, so I may just give in and get the Samsung version just because I'm tired of these things not working.
I recently bought a Samsung BDC5500 Blu-ray Disc Player. It required a wireless NIC to connect to the internet. I read another buyer's review on this product and decided to try it. It's a lot cheaper that Samsung's WIS09ABGN LinkStick Wireless LAN Adapter. This product works perfectly. It installed in seconds.
I recently bought a Samsung BD-P1590 Blu Ray player to be able to stream Netflix. Only after it arrived did I learn that you have to use the Samsung wireless adapter, not just any wireless. After some online research I found out that this adapter was being used in place of the Samsung adapter. I bought one and sure enough, as soon as I plugged it in the player detected it. I had the connection set up in a manner of seconds and it's working perfectly. It's a cheaper alternative than the Samsung adapter that is $50+. I even had some problems getting everything set right with a wired connection, but the wireless has been flawless.
CablesOnline is a fantastic seller too, I had the adapter well ahead of the estimated delivery date. If you have a Samsung player, get this adapter.
I recently purchased this Intellinet 523974 wireless adapter as an alternative to the Samsung WIS09ABGN Adapter for my TV. I plugged it into my new Samsung LED TV (UN55C8000), then updated the network setting on the TV from Wired to Wireless through the TV menu option. I proceeded to select my home wireless network, added my home network password, but the signal strength was weak. I added the USB extension included with the Intellinet 523974 adapter and placed the adapter over the top of the TV, this allowed for a significant increase in signal strength. I ran the TV network test option and successfully passed. Since this wireless USB adapter was for use on my Samsung TV only, there was no need to use the CD included with the Intellinet adapter. Shortly afterwards, I rented a Video on Demand movie through Amazon and watched it on my TV without any streaming issues or network problems.
Despite reading all great reviews, stating "instantly worked with no problems" and such, I beg to differ. Windows XP recognizes it so I don't believe the adapter is bad, but NOTHING at all ever happens when I plug or re-plug into the Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-Ray player. The settings menus do not allow you to select wireless until a device is plugged in and recognized-this never gets recognized. Buyer beware, I suspect some or many of these folks either have older firmware versions that allowed this non-Samsung adapter to work, or they are employees of the company and some of these are fake reviews.
If anyone has suggestions I'd love to hear them, but from all I've read this is supposed to be a plug in play experience. 0 stars until and unless it works. - 802 11n - Samsung Linkstick - Samsung Blu Ray Wireless - Samsung'
