Poor Design - bluetooth keyboard, ipad

If you do a lot of typing on your iPad, then this is the case for you. The setup was simple and although it's not a full size keyboard, it was pretty easy to type and it's responsive. The material of the keyboard and the PU leather protective case feels and looks good. It even comes with a free USB A/C charger. It's a great value for the money. I just saw the Brookstone catalog selling the exact same thing for $99.95 (page 6). Gembox iPad Keyboard Case for iPad 3G Tablet/WiFi Model 16GB, 32GB, 64GB Black with 'Free A/C' Wall Charger

It is everything it claimed in the description, [BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T CLAIM IT WAS RELIABLE!] and everything I had wanted it for, and then some! The cursor keys were my main interest - but there's also 1) immediately-available number, punctuation, math, etc. keys - no shift-then-shift! 2) the normal Mac edit keys work - cmd-X/C/V for editing; shift-option-arrow for word selecting; and all the rest; 3) the easel support is fabulous, I can truly use the iPad on my lap without getting iPad-elbow from having to support its weight with my hand...there's a good enough range of tilt angles using the built-in notches, but if you're reading with the keyboard off you can flatten the tilt even farther by moving onto the key area; 4) The battery lasts so long it's hard to remember to charge it occasionally; 5) The keyboard is waterproof and the iPad is on edge, so I can comfortably drink coffee while I'm reading;

OOOPS! NEW OPINION - 3 months later - it began by dropping the bluetooth connection, more & more frequently - an annoyance. Now it does not turn on at all - no blue lights, no bluetooth connection, no keyboard response. The red charging light comes on when I plug in the charger. That's all it does - it's now an expensive piece of junk. I had bought another one more recently for my wife, she hadn't used it yet & gave it to me to replace mine. On that one - it's brand new - the "shift" key doesn't work - no caps, no !@#$%^&*() symbols (on the number keys). Nor does the cmd-key. I'm trying to return it, we'll see if I can. The other one is too old to be returnable. This keyboard is really a great idea (see above), but has really lousy implementation. I guess I'll try the (inconvenient) Apple keyboard next.

I actually really liked this keyboard. I may have gotten a lemon as this gem lasted about a month before the charger went bad. The blue indicator light began flickering and eventually would not burn steadily. I tried recharging for two days but it did not help. Finally, when I removed the cable from my iPad, the metal piece from the Gembox broke off from the case. I don't know if it can be repaired....I decided to discard the keyboard and keep the case. Right now I'm actively looking for another bluetooth keyboard.

I absolutely LOVE my iPad and the only thing that it needed to make it an effective productivity tool was a real keyboard. The Gembox keyboard is great because it's built right into the case so it doesn't require carrying around (and likely forgetting) accessories. I also really like the feel of the keys.

My only complaint is with the keyboard layout. There's only one shift key on the left side, since the arrows are on the right side. Also, the apostrophe and quote marks are on the bottom row. I'm a fast touch typist and these take a bit getting used to.

Regardless, I'll gladly make the adjustment and would definitely recommend this product.

This keyboard case is a must-have for anyone who owns an iPad. The silicone wireless keyboard allows you to type comfortably and efficiently whether you're at home, at school, or traveling. If you're worried about added bulk, don't. The case looks, feels, and weighs like a leather folder. Make sure to order from the "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com" seller to get the real Gembox keyboard case and free USB A/C wall charger, which is a definite bonus. One of my friends accidentally purchased the item (when Amazon was out of stock) from a non-Amazon seller, and their case not only looked inferior in quality but also came without the charger.

=as other reviewers have mentioned, there is no shift key on the right side of the keyboard. ===as a result touch typing is semi practical. =as you can see in this text, the equals sign is about where the shift key should be on thee right side, so touch typists will find themselves inserting equal signs when they mean to caapitalize a letter on the left hand. =can make typing rather slow, since contortions are requireed to get correct capitalization.

==also as other reviewers have noted,, the keyboard produces a lot of double characters. Many are fixed bby the iPad'ss spell checker, but as you can see from this review, many are missed.

I would have been happier with aa wider case that contained a full keyboard. =an extra 1.5 inches would have allowed for a much more functional layout, and would have only brought the case up to lletter size (8 1/2" x 11"). But the keyboard would still not really be useful until the double-character problem is fixed.

Update: I got the ClamCase a couple months later. LOVE the ClamCase. Small keyboard, but after a short time I find my touch-typing rate going up and my error rate going down. I recommend the ClamCase if you want to touch type on the iPad. - Ipad - Ipad Case - Bluetooth Keyboard - Case'
