I had been looking at the reviews for similar products and there had always been unhappy buyers. This is a new product and I took a chance. Well, it came in just two days as announced, and took about two minutes to instal. Zone 1 and 2, PAL and NTSC played beautifully without any settings necessary, and even a self burnt DVD (NTSC Zone 1) that kept stalling on my previous player played without a hitch on this one ! So this amazingly small, amazingly light little machine meets all my expectations and beyond.
One might only regret it's not for use with 220 volt /50 hz current in case one might want to use it abroad (it's so lightweight !).

i own blu-ray players that despite what they claim and all the updates i download still wont play the majority of dvds i own.i hooked this player up in about 5-10 mins and off we were. i have yet to find a disc this wont play.love the any-net link with the rest of my samsung devices.the most surprising thing about the c500 is the upconvert capabilities.nothing beats the blu-ray but this is as close as you'll get with dvds, much better than other HD converting dvd players i've seen that cost alot more
Received, plugged in and works. Plays all my other region DVD's, no problem. Great with my Samsung LCD. Previous Philips I have owned ussually give trouble after 11-13 months, so I will wait and see what this one does.
All the reviews, the information on the box, "Will play all-region." Stick in the Region 2 disc, "I can't play this."
Call Samsung: "If we manufactured it in the United States, it will not play Region 2."
So everyone is wrong, black is white, night is day, and the C500 will not play Region 2 after all.
This is the 5th all-region DVD player I have purchased. The only one that worked was a Toshiba from notorious VCT Electronics which did play Region 2 for one week before its demise.
The coup de grĂ¢ce is that it won't even play blu-ray. All-Region, schmall-Region. This company is to be avoided like the plague.
VCT, schmall Region -- these people are the enemies of the consumer.
This ad claims the product is a Samsung DVD C500 player. In reality it has been modified by a third party, which surely voids its Samsung warranty. The real identity of the seller is concealed, but you can find their real web site by googling their phone number. But their mailing address is just a P.O. box. They comfortingly say that all manufacturer's warranty cards are included, but Samsung's warranty surely forbids modifications. Their return policy is draconian: if, for example, you decided that their conversion has poor video quality (which, at least in the past, has been true of many PAL to NTSC conversions) you would have to bear all shipping costs and 20% of the item's cost, and return it within 7 days. If it dies on the 8th day, tough luck.
On the other hand, buyers seem satisfied with their purchases. Caveat emptor.
Listen to the rating titled "Misleading Claims". I bought this player but it didn't play half my dvd's from the US, let alone my PAL dvds. I called Samsung and they said they do not make a dual or multi-region dvd player! So the seller mis-represented this item AND it doesn't work. Something's really fishy. It's on the way back to Amazon!
I read about multi-region (or region free dvd player) and that it can play NTSC as well as PAL DVDs. Unfortunately, got disappointed. This Samsung DVD player is not playing NTSC DVD. Don't know what to do. May return the product in a day or two.
Works - but the open close button only works 10% of the time. Loading drawer opens a little (if at all) and then closes immediately. Often have to catch the drawer and pull it to stay open long enough to insert a DVD. It's only a matter of time until the motor burns up. DVD's play in it no problem.
Region free DVD player came in and was easy to hook up. Only issue was that it is a region free player which we wanted to play PAL DVDs (German) and after turning on the DVD player the picture was rolling vertical and was in black and white on our NTSC Flat panel JVC TV. Could not get to the menu on our NTSC TV beause of rolling picture. Luckly we have 2 multi system TVs in our house and after hooking the DVD player up to one of those it worked fine and changing the system settings on DVD player from Auto (NTSC/PAL) to NTSC only for the TV the JVC TV worked fine.
