Silicone Case - droid x, motorola
I ordered two silicone skins after I bought my Droid X. The Luxmo skin & this OtterBox Impact Series Silicone Case. There's no comparison. The OtterBox is a much nicer case. The Luxmo case was very slick & it felt like it would slip out of my hand & get dropped easily. The OtterBox has a nice grip to the sides. I also like that the OtterBox in combination with the screen protector covers/protects 100% of the phone. With the Luxmo case the top & the bottom on the front of the phone were exposed. The OtterBox just seems & feels like a much nicer, more solid, durable case.
A note about case selection: I really like the silicone skins that have a good grip. I had 1 for my last Blackberry & I never dropped the phone. {With my previous cases I used to drop the phone all the time & my phones would get damaged.} As a result, my previous Blackberry experienced no damage during the time that I had it, so I was able to sell it for a great price on ebay.
Hope this review helps. OtterBox Impact-Series Silicone Case for Motorola Droid X (Black)
Like the reviewer AB before me, I agree that this case is quite lacking. Do not be fooled by the slim profile picture and how clean it fits on the image, because it doesnt. In fact it feels like any other silicone casing and it doesnt even fit snugly. The flap of rubber that covers the motorola logo on the top of my droid x protrudes outward and creates an ugly hump. What a letdown. I also do not appreciate the false marketing based on how they show the phone to look with the cover.
This case arrived promptly but I was very disappointed with it. It covers the bottom buttons and makes them very difficult to use, which I didn't notice, and doesn't fit the phone tightly. It is quite thick. I would look at other options before buying this.
I don't really understand what all the bad complaints are for. It comes down to this: Do you want protection or not?
This is a silicone case that covers the sides, back, and front edges of the Droid X. The silicone has a good thickness: Any thicker, and I'd consider it too thick and bulky. Any less thick, and I'd wonder if it's really protecting anything.
It seems like the #1 complaint people have are with the case covering the 4 buttons on the bottom front of the Droid X (options, home, return, search). Yes, they cover it and it's in black so hard to read. You quickly memorize which button is where, so it's not a problem. Yes, the buttons are more difficult to press with the case on that if you had no case. Well, that's what you get if you want protection. Same goes for the camera button. It's harder to press half-way for focus. Impossible? No. Just not as easy.
As I said, if it was any thinner of silicone, I don't think it would protect effectively, so these minor tradeoffs of buttons being a little more difficult to press is worth the tradeoff for better protection if I drop it.
I like it and I'd recommend it.
This is a simple, but effective case that gives good value for the price. It goes on and comes off easily and provides a sure grip on your Droid X. I use a Motorola HD Dock for DROID X (Motorola Retail Packaging) for my Droid at night, and appreciate how easy it is to get the case on and off. The textured rubber case prevents the phone from sliding on slick surfaces - it stays put where you place it. All in all, a great product.
Good case, seems to keep the phone safe and comes with a screen protector which is nice.
Only problem I have is that the case seems to stretch out and not fit the phone quite as tightly as it did when I got it a bit over a month ago. I'll still use it, but probably won't get a full two years out of it.
Also, I don't mind the large phone. I do, on occasion, wear skinny jeans and I have to take the phone out of the case on those days.
I looked for some protection for my new Droid X that would allow for both security and ease of carry. The OtterBox Impact was exactly what was needed. It provides significant protection from dropping without adding too much bulk. Looks sharp too! It easily slips into my shirt pocket.
There is a minor issue with seeing the buttons on the bottom of the phone. It would have been nice if they were highlighted in a white color as they are tough to see with my older eyes.
The only other issue is the 'grip' on the silicone when you slip it into your pocket. It will drag slightly on the pocket fabric but that also is a positive for not dropping the phone.
I would highly recommend the product.
The silicone sleeve fits like a glove and the screen protector goes on easily. When I first got the Droid X, I felt that it was a little light and this cover gives it a little more heft. It now simply feels more protected.
I bought this case directly from Otterbox (they had a Cyber Monday deal). The case fits perfectly. All the right holes are still there (camera, mic). The cover does go over the buttons on the front of the phone (settings, home, previous screen, search). You'll find the buttons on the cover, but you can't see them (black on black). I also couldn't get the protective cover to stay on the screen. I finally gave up and didn't use it - it wasn't the reason I bought the cover.
Otterbox had a promo which included a small stand for your Droid which would make it stand on a table so you can watch video - nice.
All in all, nice cover. List is $19.95; can't beat it at that price. - Droid X Case - Impact - Motorola - Droid X'
