I can't believe it! Just when we thought we've got the Duracell battery color scheme figured out, those folks at Duracell pulled another cheap trick out of their collective... hat!
To recall, here is the color scheme for Duracell AA/AAA batteries:
- Duracell alkaline cell has the famous 'copper top' and a black bottom
- Traditional Duracell Rechargeable NiMH (DC2400) cell is green and black in color
- Newer Duracell Pre Charged NiMH cell has a 'copper top' and a green/black bottom
The latest batch of rechargeable AA/AAA NiMH cells from Duracell all have the 'copper top' and green/black bottom, similar to that for 'Pre Charged' version. However, those cells don't say 'Pre Charged' on them. Instead, they have their capacity printed (2650mAh for Duracell DC1500 AA, 1000mAh for Duracell DC2400B4N AAA). It is important to know that: those are NOT the low-self-discharge type like Sanyo Eneloop. They are traditional NiMH cells, which have higher capacity but suffer from rapid self-discharge problem. So even though their prices may look attractive, those are no bargains.

Rechargeable batteries have gotten a bad rap in the past, with older nicad technology that was more trouble to use with their memory effect and low amperage. They just didn't last as long, or were not easy to use.Now with NiMH rechargeables and more sophisticated chargers, it's a no brainer to convert over to this newer technology. High drain devices like digital cameras are a great example of where NiMH really shine. I take picture after picture with flash and review photos on the built in LCD and I don't worry about these duracells running out. 1,800 milliamps will last a long time.For trips/outings where I'll be taking hundreds of shots, I just get an extra set that I can charge and have ready. No more wasting money on disposable batteries! Some travel chargers are really small, and you don't have to wait for it to charge overnight anymore, they charge in a few hours now.For other devices that use AAA's like FRS radios, the smaller version of these duracells will take a beating and you will save lots of money compared to buying disposable batteries.
I have had these AAA batteries for a couple of years. I use them for my mp3 player, my Sony sports radio, and my Mighty Bright clip-on light.
These give me about as much power as the regular Duracell Coppertop AAA alkaline batteries.
- Capacity
Although not mentioned in the product description, the capacity of these batteries is 1000 mAH. Duracell also makes these Pre-Charged 1000 mAH AAA Rechargeable Batteries (1000 mAH is the highest capapcity of AAA rechargeable batteries that Duracell makes as of this writing).
- Battery Life
I'm very satisfied with the battery life of these batteries. I frequently use my Might Bright light to read. These Duracell batteries give me 15-20 hours of light before my the light grows noticeably dimmer. After that, I can still squeeze some juice out of them to get a few more hours of usable light. And on my antiquated Cowon iAUDIO 4 player, I get about 10 hours from a single Duracell AAA Rechargeable battery!
I have both an Energizer and a Duracell battery charger. These batteries perform spectacularly no matter which charger I use to charge them.
- Pre-Charged Alternative
Whenever you're in a pinch and need some batteries (say you're out vacationing), instead of buying alkaline batteries, I'd also really recommend that you try these Pre-Charged Duracell Batteries. They're ready to go right out of the package, and after they have been depleted, you can pop them in your charger to charge them right up and reuse them again.

These Duracell AAA Rechargeable Batteries last a long time in my medium-drain devices. I'm more than satisfied with the performance on these Duracell Rechargeable Batteries.
I used these to replace the batteries for my Archos Jukebox mp3 player. They last about 2.5 hours longer than the batteries it came with and recharge in my jukebox without any problems.These batteries come CHARGED (some don't).
The picture for this item is misleading. I bought this item in April 2008 so this review is accurate as of then.
