Inflatable - canoes, inflatable

This is my 2nd Sevylor Tahiti K79 Classic Kayak, the first lasted about 4 years of ocean going fun and only needed replacing when I ripped a large hole in it while transporting.

Buyer be ware of the new Tahiti Classics kayaks, they may look the same but are not!!!!! having the old one (now patched) I looked over the two side by side, and some interesting differnces showed up. First clue is the color/faberic the later model had a diffent color in looking close at the faberic it seemed cheaper. Moving on to the real problem with these new units (still called Tahiti Classic K79) The new air valve, They are really diffent. The old ones had a more standerd valve that has a cap that screws on (like what you get on most inflatable boats). The size of the old units (air inlet)were standerd in that just about any air pump could fit the hole and they wouldnt leak unless you unscrewed them 6 + turns to let the air out..THE NEW UNITS HAVE A CHEAP PLUG that looks and functions like those found on cheap pool toys. They don't have to be turned to release the air! you just tug on the plugs flap and the air gushes out. If you are not carefull and accidently whack these cheap plugs with a paddle or a shoe hits them while boarding the kayak the tube deflates real fast. Think how that might be in the middle of a lake or like me in the middle of a bay. Then there is the odd size of the air plugs hole. My trusty air pump dosent work with these new valves. When I did finally inflate the thing and got it on the water another interesting thing was observed. Fully inflated the new unit sagged in the middle with two people on board, not much, but moving over to the old unit there was no sag, thiner fabric in the new units maybe? The old K79 I would take between islands, out to sea (a mile). This new unit is best left to the family pool, what a shame Sevylor went this way with their popular and well priced K79 Classic. Look around for one of the old units they are a more darker yellow and don't have the blue colors on the side of the Kayak and of course they have screw on air caps on the plugs. I find using the new model a bit dangerous, so if you cant find one of the old models consider another brand. Sevylor Tahiti Classic Inflatable Kayak

There will be much talk of the "NEW" and the "OLD" Sevylor items, pre and post Coleman. Coleman sources different material which is ironic, since they did make boats for Sevylor in the "old days". They also insist they have a superior valve system.

Called the double valve or whatever system, it consists of a push-in valve that seals against an inside plug, and the outer valve cover closes over the open valve nozzle, providing a "double seal" that they claim is guaranteed not to leak. This works only if the inner part of the valve is pushed in completely. I like this valve on the Coleman chairs and the pool rafts, but I HATE these valves on the boats and kayaks. HATE them.

I was paddling out at Moku Nui in Kailua Bay, and it was really hot. I reached behind kayak my seat to grab my water bottle, and the handle grabbed the valve flap unbeknownst to me it looped the valve, and when I tugged on it, the entire port valve opened up, and the tube deflated at full flow, in the middle of Kailua Bay. Not panicked because I knew I would still stay afloat, I spent the next several minutes re-inflating the tube by mouth, laying down in the floor of the kayak, and having tossed my seat overboard to get onto the floor and under the rear spray deck.

Inconvenient at best, dangerous at worst. This valve system, as I mentioned, is great for pool rafts and the Coleman inflatable camp furniture, but AWFUL and quite frankly a lawsuit waiting to happen. In the unlikely event that the floor was punctured on a coral reef, and kids were in the kayak instead of me, in moderate deep water (12-25 feet) with swells, wind, etc...or even in a pool, you can imagine the potential for danger.

The kayak itself feels and looks cheaper, like it was dipped in paint and cheaply decorated. Disappointed, will be looking on ebay for the "older" model.

I have been using the Sevylor Tahiti mostly in the ocean and it has performed very well. I go with my two kids (6 and 4 years old) and I still have plenty of space for me. The skeg is a must, but there are a couple of places where you can find it for half of the price of Amazon. However be aware that this Kayak doesn't come with the paddles, pump or the skeg, so you have to buy everything separately. I found out that the Sea Eagle 330 may be a better deal because it comes with everything and you just need to enjoy it. My friend just bought a Sea Eagle - it is a little bit narrower but it looks like it is better quality than the Sevylor. I am not unhappy with mine, but next time I will get the Sea Eagle 330 and pay just 198.98, instead 140.86 + accessories (2 paddles $35.98, 1 pump $10.88, 1 skeg $21.64) I ended paying $209.36

I'm an avid canoeist/kayaker, with 30 years of mishaps on the water and problems with transporting small boats. I own a kayak and a canoe. This- while not nearly as serious as a "real" boat - is nevertheless very useful for most recreational uses. You do not need a rack for the roof of the car, and I find it perfect for near-shore day trips. People in these reviews have been critical, but they shouldn't be so harsh when you consider that this is a vinyl boat 10x less in price that a full-sized ABS canoe or sea kayak.

Pros:

- The sides, decks and floors each have their own valves. If you find yourself losing air, you'll have lots in reserve.

- The PVC Material is very durable. (as tough as it is,you still shouldn't drag it along on the beach.)

- The valves work just fine for hand pumps, and they allow for multiple fittings.

- Bright Yellow = visible. Rigid, spacious = not cramped.

- The price.

Cons:

- With two people and kayak paddles, you will be smacking each other's paddles if you're out of sync.

- There is no keel, so this boat tracks poorly. This is not a fast boat; its a Sunday ride. Expect to make correction strokes every time you crest a wave.

- The seats are "ok". I have some snap on seat backs from a kayak I use instead of the inflated backs provided.

This is a GREAT boat for short day excursions along the shore; for brief explorations. Best of all, it fits in your trunk and doesn't cost much. - Canoes - Inflatable - Inflatable Kayaks - Inflatable Kayak'

Irobot Roomba Battery - roomba battery, roomba

The Tenergy replacement battery that I purchased worked well for 7 months and then failed. Unfortunately, the warranty is only for 6 months. The vendor I purchased from (Battery Superstore) offered free shipping on my next purchase, but was firm on the 6 month warranty.

Bottom line - The Tenergy batteries seem to have short lifespans. If they typically lasted a year, I suspect the warranty would have been made to match. Tenergy Replacement Battery for iRobot 400 series Roomba

We have owned an iRobot for a few years now and unfortunately the design of the batteries has a lot of room for improvement. We also have tried replacement batteries from a variety of sites with mixed results (including failure right out of the box!). We are very happy to have found a great replacement battery from Tenergy! When the time comes, we will definitely reorder the Tenergy replacement battery!

I bought this for a roomba scheduler. It actually runs longer than the original set by I Robot. I had a extra battery and had it rebuilt locally and it cost $40.00. It's charge only last for about 20 minutes. I found a new replacemant at Amazon for $39.95 and it last for 90 minutes. This is a must buy if you need you battery replaced.

I received this battery promptly and happily put it into my Roomba, which had a dead battery. It started right up and worked quite well.

About 40 minutes later, my Roomba was dead again. The battery lasted only 40 minutes, when the product description claims it should run more than twice that. Either this is a dud battery or just a cheap ripoff.

Please don't claim that a battery has 3.3 Ah of battery capacity when it clearly does not. There wasn't even a label on the battery.

I can't recommend this product unless you're really strapped for cash.

EDIT:

After opening the battery, I can verify that the capacity is not the 3.3 Ah as advertised, but 2.6 Ah, more than 20% less capacity.

Not only this but the company that makes the batteries is called Golden Dragon Battery, based in China.

Shoddy product, false advertising, and reselling of other companies products makes me want to say with certainty that I would never buy from this company again.

40 minutes of actual actual run time vs 100 minutes advertised? NO THANKS

I bought this battery 11 months ago and just in the last month it started loosing battery power it is down from the 40 minute charge it had when it was new to 10 min charge now, this one lasted longer than the one I purchased directly from iRobot that I paid twice as much for, the iRobot replacement battery only lasted 8 months. You have to make sure your robot is always on the charger when not in use. I am on my 3rd roomba and my 7th battery, this battery has lasted longer than any other one that I have had. I am going to order my 8th one now hopefully the quality will be as good as the last one.

I was upset that the battery went bad in a few weeks. I contacted this vendor and there was a few communications problems but the long and short of it is I paid them $7.00 to cover shipping and once we were talking on the level they sent me a replacement battery right away. I still recommend this vendor and will continue to do business with them. - Roomba Battery - Irobot Roomba Battery - Roomba - Battery'

Ipad Accessory

This WAS an excellent product. Now, for many of us, it's worthless. In May, I took it with my iPad to the Amazon jungle in Peru and was able to read the CF card from my Canon DSLR using a small CF card reader. It was brilliant. I could review my day's photos and decide where to shoot the next day based on whether or not I was happy with my results.

Then came the updated iOS 4.2 operating system for the iPad right at the beginning of December, and now this kit cannot read a CF card using an external reader. This is because Apple reduced the power to the port that this plugs into specifically to prevent people from plugging useful things into the USB connector. That's why I say to ignore any review before that time. Earlier reviews are talking about a product that actually works as designed. Only reviews after that tell you what it can do if you buy it now.

Still, this might work for some people, depending on your needs. Here's where you stand.

1. You only have SD cards in your cameras. You're probably fine. The SD dongle still reads most of those.

2. You have CF cards and need to read them with an external reader. You are completely out of luck unless you use a powered USB hub. At that point, you're carrying so much junk around, you may as well just take your laptop, and you must be near an electrical outlet for it to work at all.

3. You have CF cards and can attach a USB cable directly to your camera. This is a crap shoot. Some cameras work and some don't. You can either borrow a CCK from someone to see if it works with yours or you can just buy it and hope.

Some may wonder if my one-star is a little too harsh, given that this device still works in some situations. Normally, I would agree, but there's another point at work here. This isn't about a device that never had the capacity to do something you might want it to do. For that you knock it down a star or two. This is a device that worked perfectly when it was released and that the manufacturer has intentionally crippled. Both the iPad and this kit are capable of working, but Apple has removed that functionality in software. When a company breaks their own product on purpose, I think that deserves one star. Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit (MC531ZM/A)

Worthless! IPad ver. 4.2 will NOT read a photo SD card. I even made sure the p[hotos were put under the DCIM folder and dumbed the images down to the resolution of the ipad. Managing photos on iTunes between 2 computers is a real hassel. People found inventive ways to use the USB and SD adaptor and Apple sunk that with ver. 4.2. Do not get the adaptor. The iPad is of course nice, but I bought my wife a a MacBook and was considering getting another Mac to replace my other laptop and desktop. NOT NOW! I am harshly reminded of the inflexibility of Apple products. I'll stay PC.

The first thing that came to mind with the iPad was "perfect photo device!" so a big selling point of it was the ability to download my photos to the iPad on-location, edit them and upload them - something I usually can't do while out taking photos or on vacation.

In order to do that, you need the iPad Camera Kit (a currently very-hard-to-find item (I waited 4 weeks to receive mine as all the local stores sold out instantly after receiving shipments).

Right off the bat, I love that they give you 2 adapters (1 for SD cards, 1 for USB). I had no use for the SD adapter as all my cameras are compact flash. I would have happily bought a separate CF card reader if one were available, but no luck on that. If your camera uses something other than SD, you need to "tether" it to the iPad (meaning you plug the USB piece from the camera kit into the iPads dock port, plug your USB cable from your camera into your camera and the other end into the USB piece on the iPad). Not the most convenient method, especially when on-the-go, but its workable.

Plugging in my camera (a Canon 40D), the previews started to appear on the iPad. It took 36 seconds to load the first 35 previews (this is using a short USB cable and a high speed CF card (30MB/Sec). A big downside here is that you cant view the photos larger than a thumbnail without importing them, going to your photo albums, finding the folder it went to and then scrolling to find it. Importing photos (10MP RAW Files) took 6 seconds each. After importing you get the option to "Keep" or "Delete" them from the camera - this is a bit scary as if you're click-happy on the popup, you can end up deleting the photos from your camera (not a huge deal as theyre on the iPad, but definitely a bit of a scare). You can either select individual photos or choose to import everything from the card.

Imported photos go into a new folder in you Photos app - "All Imported" - it also creates a secondary folder: "Last Import" - I would have really liked a way to create a specific folder for each import rather than lumping it all into 1 folder.

The USB adapter is a bit picky as far as what it will accept, I hear some USB Card Readers will work with it (eliminating the need to tether your camera), but it's all a matter of trial and error. USB Keyboards work (again, not all - ones with USB ports on them will not work). You can also not import video files if you have something like a Flip HD camera. This was disappointing as the iPad would make a GREAT video playback screen (especially 720p video like the flip) - especially compared to the 1" screen most of these cameras have.

A big plus to apple for including RAW support on imports (instead of just JPEG).

With the many photo editing apps out there, you can easily take some photos on your camera, import them into the iPad, edit them however you'd like and upload them your photo sharing sites from just about anywhere. For that, it's worth it. It has all sorts of problems (no CF, requires tethering, slow import, no video, etc..) but it's the only option you have, and for that I have to recommend it.'

George Foreman Grill - cuisinart griddler, griddler

This lil panini press definitely gets the job done. It upgrades my boring sandwiches into hot little morsels from heaven. But it is very far from perfect. On taking it out of the box, I couldn't tell if it had been used or made in the most crazy, destructive, dysfunctional factory in the world. It had quite a few little dings and scratches on the plastic handles. It is so disappointing to wait for something to come in the mail, get excited about it and have it come out of the box looking like someone else returned it the day before they sent it out to me. Luckily, the grey "stainless steel" surface was fine and still protected in factory plastic. I'd been craving a panini for a week and didn't feel like dropping another 10$ at the cafe down the street, so I bit the bullet, washed it VERY thoroughly and it's now sitting on my counter. One of the reasons I gravitated towards this model was the price and that is advertised as having a floating hinge, which in my understanding, means that the top lid comes down directly on top of the sandwich, ie like a press should, and would not come down at any kind of angle like the George Forman grill. There is a slight swivel, but all in all, it comes down at an angle and depending on how tall the sandwich is, pushes the contents off. If I had seen this product before purchase, I probably would've just picked up a George Forman grill of the same size for half the price. The only differences, in my opinion, are that it looks better sitting on the counter than a Forman grill and the way this grill can open flat (for flat grilling on both the top and bottom grill) . But it is a feature I haven't used and probably won't ever use. Bottom line, I think this model is a glorified and overpriced George Forman Grill, and if I could do it again, I would either buy the George Forman Grill or spend double than what I spent to get a better product.

Somehow I thought the top part of this unit would rotate just a bit so it would lay flat on top of the sandwich I want to grill. But it doesn't. Anything more than about 1" has to be turned around halfway through to get the outside edges grilled as well as the original inside ones. It works well and the vendor was just fine but I am disappointed with it. Wish the top rotated more.

My roommate and I love sandwiches, the more creative the better. I decided to purchase this panini press after talking about how we could create our own at a lower cost. I am so glad I bought it, we both are extremely busy, working full time, volunteering full time, and I am also a full time student. With this panini press dinner is ready in like 10 minutes.

The only negative thing I have to say, is after a few uses, it take a lot longer for the sandwiches to get completely grilled. I dont know if I'm not cleaning it properly or what, but all in all it still works great.

We love going to Whole Foods, buying a ton of fruits and veggies, good cheese and good bread, and throwing it all into one sandwich. YUM!

I bought this panini grill because it was small and had a great price.I was impressed! It's so easy to use, and so easy to clean! The grill is non-stick and you can clean it by hand or in the dishwasher. It has a red and green light to inform you when the grill is hot enough to make your panini on! I'm constantly making sandwiches with this grill! It was definitely worth the price!

I ordered this to replace an older George Foreman grill. I could not be happier with this product. This is so much more than just a great panini press. I have used it to grill chicken breasts, pprk chops, burgers, et.. This is a great alternative to using my outdoor grill during the winter months. It heats up quickly, cooks evenly and, best of all, the removable plates make cleaning so much easier than what I had before.

I love how this grill opens up flat to two grilling surfaces for burgers, chicken or fish. It has a place for the fat to drain like a Foreman Grill only the clean up is much easier. I have enjoyed many panini sandwiches such as a tuna melt, chicken articoke spinach, and turkey BLT. They were all delicious and toasted to perfection. I found it was better to butter the bread first even though the intructions say you dont need to. I had trouble at first getting the top of the grill to lay flat on the entire piece of bread which left it mostly toasted on one side. But I use a hot pad to move and tilt the top grill at an angle so that it lays flat and toasts the bread evenly. The grills slide off easily when a button for each grill is pressed. The easy non-stick surface wipes clean. I dont regret purchasing this grill. It has been a fun tool in the kitchen.

I bought this for my sister and her family for Christmas. They love it! Besides sandwiches they use it to grill steaks and porkchops..faster than outdoor grilling and much easier in the winter than standing out in the cold. Easy to clean too. - Griddle - Cuisinart Griddler - Cuisinart Gr-4 Griddler - Griddler'

I Recommend This Product - multmedia hard drive, media storage

This product was on Amazon's "Lightning Sale" for $199 and I thought AWESOME. Iomega has been around forever with their zip drives and what-not, and 2TB of space to put all of my collected avi's, mpeg's, mp4's, mp3's and jpeg's on a platform that would play them in 1080i would be great...

N O P E

It loaded just fine, in fact I thought it went rather fast, but then I set it up. It's SLOWWWWWW, and I don't mean just to start up. I changed the batteries in the remote... TWICE because I didn't want to believe that such a simple device could be bogged down navigating 4 option menus. After painfully wading through unattractive menus and sub-menus it would always lead me back to the file menu, and heaven forbid you have all of your mp3's in the same folder it will lock-up for 10 minutes. Speaking of Locking-Up, that seems to be it's favorite pastime. I had to reset 3 times in the first 10 minutes including physically pulling the plug since it was completely unresponsive.

I am not in the habit of besmirching a product, but I usually base my buying options on customer feedbacks which I dearly cherish; unfortunately, at the time of my purchase the product was bran-spanking new and there was no feedback. For the sake of future shoppers I am paying-this-forward (which also gives me the rights for "I told you so!"). Iomega 1TB ScreenPlay Director HD Multimedia Player (34650)

I have a 'Iomega Screenplay Pro 1TB'. I thought this is a newer version of that and could be more effective/interactive/better. But I'm very disappointed.

'Pro' had an option of video recording and I knew this doesn't have it.

I expected it to have better interactive menu but it didn't have. The reaction time to the remote is very slow.

Many features that are there in Pro is not available in this.

In Pro, When you see a list of video files, there is a preview window where it plays the actual video. This shows a file icon. What good is that for?

Pro recognizes a dvd files and brings up the dvd menu. This doesn't bring the DVD menu at all.

Pro remote had lots of options. Example, dvd subtitile is just a click away. Here.. Nope.

Plays wmv and few other formats that Pro didn't play. But now after seeing this so 'interactive' menu options, I'm reluctant to upgrade the software on my Pro.

I would return it in a day or two.

I purchased Iomega 1TB ScreenPlay Director HD Multimedia Player.

It is not functional - works just as a hard disk (sometimes as a MP3 misic player).

Not compatible - it does not play video of any format. I tried diff conversions into different video formats and nothing works.

Not upgradble - did not succeed to install in any way the new version of firmware.

IT IS NOT BRAND NAME IOMEGA

Support is bad, rude, not professional.

first off, i use this via wired connection & only use this to store media. I've not (yet) gotten into the online media (i've got other products for this.)

it plays every media file i've tried, i was running out of space on my 1 TB drive so i wanted to get some stuff off my main system & this is how i came to order the iomega. i've been a long time iomega fan (way back to the 100gb zip drives). i held out as long as i could & finally broke down & got it... i don't try to sync a TB to my system that would kill my network so i only get files from it as they're needed or use the usb connection if i need to sync my mp3 player.

does everything i need/want it to. now looking @ the screenplay tv link to sync to the other tvs (i'll need to get the wireless adapter from iomega for that tho...)

Got this for about $199 (USD). Works reasonably well but extremely tempermental!

I cannot figure out how to delete files from the mapped drive.

The torrents say they have downloaded but don't show up anywhere on the hard drive.

Do not buy it.

I would not recommend this product as I was never able to get it fully set up and connected to my home network. Out of the box, it connected via HDMI to my HDTV and the menus displayed fine. That's as far as it ever got, because this device would not get recognized by my PC. One other issue I discovered is that after 10mins or so, the device would go into sleep mode and would not wake up neither through the remote nor by directly pushing buttons on the case. The only way I could get the device going again was by unplugging and re-initializing it.

The online troubleshooting guide wasn't of much help either as I quickly found myself in a vicious circle; one help section suggested if my PC would not recognize the device to click to another section that instructed me to make sure the device is recognized. It also suggested I visit my PC's hardware MFG websites to make sure all of my drivers are up to date, which they were. When this proved futile, I attempted to call and/or chat with Iomega customer support. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to reach anyone as their hours of operation are not conducive to someone who works for a living and only has time on weekends and/or eventings to "play" with new toys like this.

Although my PC is running an older OS (Win XP SP2), the Iomega device is advertised to work. However, based on my experience this was not the case and I ended up returning it after several hours of fruitless endeavors. - Multmedia Hard Drive - Multimedia Drive With Hdmi - Media Player - Media Storage'

When I opened the vendor's box, there were hundreds of little pieces of staples. Amazon probably attributed to some of the damage by placing the vendor's box into too large of a shipping box with 2 pieces of "air" packaging.

I returned the item (mostly in a plastic "baggie") and ordered another brand (Surebonder). They arrived fine. GREX GNS18-12 18 Gauge 1/4-Inch Crown 1/2-Inch Length Galvanized & Coated Staples (5,000 per box)'

Blackberry Bold 9700 - blackberry 9700, blackberry bold 9700

Alright, let me just say off the bat that as a former Bold 9000 user, I've been looking forward to the new Bold 2 for months since pictures were leaked on the internet. Since I get my phones through my company, I've had the phone since Nov. 18, when it was released on AT&T's network for Premier people. Unfortunately, my friend decided that after playing around with my phone, they wanted one, so I bought them an unlocked one.

The new Bold 9700 is a sleek phone - no doubt about it. RIM apparently has decided, though, to somewhat standardize their phones' look, a direction that bothers me to a great extent. One of the things I loved about the Bold was that it was different - you saw any other phone, and then you saw the Bold - and you thought "Wow, that phone IS bold!!" Size I couldn't care less about - as long as it looked good, and worked awesomely, what else matters? And the Bold 9000 fit those well. So when I got the new 9700, and I compared it to my coworker's Tour (for Verizon), I was quite surprised at how similar they were. It's actually somewhat hard to tell them apart (the 9700 is a bit smaller, and also has the trackpad). Just an observation....

Alright - to the review:

Pros:

Trackpad - this is definitely a most welcome upgrade. RIM outdid themselves on this part - I thought the trackball was good, this trackpad is great! The older Bold's trackball was great, as long as you kept dirt and dust out of it. Which turned out to be somewhat difficult, since there was a depression surrounding the trackball, and so if too much dust or dirt got in, the ball needed to be replaced. Also, if you used it too much, the ball would lose its grip, and become less responsive, also - once again - needing to be replaced. Both those problems are now gone with this new trackpad. For former trackball users, it may take a little use to get to know it, but once you do, trust me - you'll never go back.

Speaker - the speakers on the Bold are nothing less than stunning. My friend has an IPhone, and my speakers for playing music and speakerphone blow his out of this century. Not only can they get very loud, but they also are quite clear and crisp, for the volume you can put them to. And, if that wasn't good enough, RIM includes AudioBoost - for when you hook your Bold up to your car or stereo system, which bumps the output sound even higher. Excellent....

OS - the new BlackBerry 5 OS, which comes preloaded on the phone, is a major improvement over the 4.6 version in most other phones. It's snappier, and quite more responsive.

Camera - RIM upgraded the camera from a 2 MP in the older Bold to a 3.2 MP in the Bold 9700. The pictures that the phone takes are quite good, even in poor light conditions. Of course, if you try to take pictures in the club with it - prepare to be somewhat disappointed. Ha. But for regular, everyday camera uses, that "quick shot", the Bold 9700 actually takes decent pictures. Nice for when you forget to bring that digital camera with you.

There's a couple other pros I can think of, but they're more along the lines of business users, or based on networks (you could get 3G speeds on AT&T's network since the first Bold - T-Mobile just got their first 3G BlackBerry with this phone). If you're interested in them, drop me a comment, and I'll get back to you.

Now, for the cons:

Battery - battery life is still somewhat bad, although it definitely is an improvement over the older Bold. I normally use Pandora - an App that plays Internet Radio, trust me, this should be one of the first apps you download, it's free - the other is Google Maps, also free - anyway, back to the review, so I normally use Pandora, and I can get about 6 hours out of the battery, with small breaks in-between receiving phone calls. So, in normal use, you could probably get about a day out of the battery, which isn't terrible, but also is somewhat worse than comparable phones out there.

Hardware - this is probably my biggest negative I had. Normally, when they say upgrade, you would think they would put better hardware in the thing, right?? Well, think again. With the exception of the upgraded camera and trackpad, there is NO difference in hardware between this and the older Bold.

Zero.

Nada.

I would've liked some upgraded hardware in the phone. But again - this is just my thing. You may not care.

My last negative is more hit and miss - some people have been reporting that BlackBerry Maps - the app that RIM ships with the phone for navigation, doesn't work on the 9700. Myself included. This appears to be at random, but it just irks me. It may be dependent on the network you're on. Fortunately, there's a workaround - get Google Maps.

So - overall, the phone is a nice update. It works, takes nice pictures, looks sleek, and can be used as your new boombox when you want to blast "What is Love?" by Haddaway. (Kidding on the last one) I would completely recommend this phone, even with some of its faults, since they don't really take away from the experience with the phone.

I'll update this review from time to time, as I continue to use this, so if there's any questions, please feel free to ask.

UPDATE: As of today - 8/3/2010 - RIM has announced that their new BlackBerry OS - 6 - WILL be compatible with the 9700. So if you are looking at this phone, but aren't necessarily a fan of OS 5, or weren't sure if updates would be released for it - fear no more.

Swimming Goggles

My daughter swims summer swim team for 8 weeks at a time, and she has had the same pair of Jr. Hydrospex for 5 years. Yes, years. I don't know how they have lasted that long, because we also swim at an indoor pool about 20 times the rest of the year. Only now, as a teenager, does she need the adult size Hydrospex.

That's a pretty good recommendation. Speedo Junior Hydrospex Swim Goggle (Pink)

One of the problems with goggles that feature silicone cups is the limited lifetime they offer. Usually, such gaskets simply won't last for more than 9-12 months unless you take extremely good care of them, and most swimmers I know usually don't.

I had a pair of these and generally enjoyed them for the first few months. They had minimal leakage and zero fogging whatsoever, which really is the hallmark and strongest feature of speedo goggles. I chose the Jr. Hydrospex because of the narrower nose piece and the smaller profile gaskets, which will fit anyone with a narrower face better than the respective adult version. The soft silicone cups make them much more comfortable to wear than swedes if you're not into that sort of thing. The strap on these goggles is one of the best I've ever had on any brand, ever.

Now for the bad; getting a good seal with these goggles will take some coaxing, especially after a few sessions in the pool. The gaskets begin getting brittle after a few swims and the unadjustable nosepiece is a MAJOR hinderance. Tightening the goggles forces the inner corner of the gasket out of place, which soon becomes necessary as the gaskets wear out. This increases leakage and discomfort for the wearer as the goggles shift out of their ideal position on the face and toward the inner corner of the eye. The nosepiece will not keep the goggles where you want them if you tighten them too much, which means leakage is almost guaranteed. After extended use, the gaskets will actually begin separating from the lenses, and at this point the goggles pretty much need to be replaced (if used daily without perfect care, this can happen after as little as 4 months).

These are the best pair of speedo goggles I've used recently, but thats not saying much. I'm simply not impressed with the quality of the eye gaskets on many speedo products lately, but if you're a speedo purist, then I would recommend these over most of the other styles. Basic Sprint style goggles are probably somewhat better, but not everyone enjoys the foam cups. IF speedo had the foresight to make the nosepiece adjustable, I think these goggles would have been much, much better.

I purchased 2 pairs of goggles for my 10 and 12 year old children. They used them for a week on vacation in Mexico swimming in the pool and ocean. Both of my children said they were the best goggle's they have had and were able to play in the water for hours at a time without having any eye irritation. Both my children have light blue eyes which are very sensative to chlorine and sea salt. I highly recommend them.

My two boys, 8 and 10 are on the local swim team and a lot of the kids use these goggles. They work well for my boys. I like the previous versions of these better when you could pull on the straps to adjust them while you had them on. Now you have to take them off and unlatch, adjust and relatch but other than that, they are great. We've owned a few of these and have to keep buying more, not because they wear out, but because they get lost.

These are the best goggles for kids! Only one adjustment needed when they are new... then they are perfect for the rest of summer. Other, less expensive goggles require so many adjustments and the straps are always fallling off. Get these goggles and you won't hear, "Mom fix my goggles!" 100 times a day at the pool! The kids love them and never complain- a big plus!

We had gone through three pairs of goggles each since last year for our children. They are on the swim team and none of the goggles would stay on them securely while diving in the pool. I overheard a mom telling another mom about the Hydrospex Jr goggles being the best goggles out there. I ordered a pair for each of my children and they work wonderfully! All three of them mentioned to me that these goggles are awesome. I would definetly buy these again in the future.

My 11 year old daughter is petite and most kids goggles fit too small and adult fit too big so she has a hard time getting a good fit. She loves these because they fit perfect. She is on swim team and needs goggles she doesn't have to stop and fix every other lap and these are great. Best of all she doesn't end up with the ring around her eyes most other goggles give her.'

Blueproton - usb radio, muzee

I love my Muzee. I received it last Christmas. I previously had my XM-PCR on my computer. Because I knew I was getting a Muzee, I canceled my subscription with XM. When I had XM on my computer, I was paying $14.95 per month. Now since I have my Muzee, it's just the opposite.

Here's the straight dope between XM and Sirius and the Muzee. With Sirius and XM, you need to pay for the equipment and subscribe to the service. Another thing about Sirius and XM is you need to use an antenna for the incoming satellite feed.

On the other hand, the Muzee is, for the most part, FREE. All you need to do is purchase the Muzee dongle and plug it into a USB port on your computer or laptop. Of course you need an active internet connection for the Muzee. Beyond the purchase of the dongle, the service and content is totally FREE. No additional software or hardware is necessary.

Another thing I'd like to mention is the fact that XM and Sirius are just limited to the channels on the satellite fed receiver. I remember the channels numbered just about 200 or so. Whereas the Muzee, since it operates from the internet, gives you access to tons more content than XM and Sirius provide. Consider this, XM and Sirius give you about 200 channels. The Muzee gives you roughly 13,000 stations worldwide. These include AM stations, FM stations, and many high-definition stations. Since no external antenna is needed, the radio signals come through clear as a bell.

I know that the XM-PCR was discontinued due to piracy. I used to use Wave Studio to record from my PCR. The Muzee has recording capabilities built into the software. You can record anything off the Muzee in WMA format. Hence, you can play it back on Windows Media Player, or convert it to AAC format in iTunes.

If you want the best radio you can find, forget the other radios you know. In fact, sell or just get rid of them, and get your hands on a Muzee. You will be glad you did. Muzee USB Internet Player & Recorder Radio, over 20,000 Internet Radio Stations

I am a low-tech girl. I don't have Sirius, or XM, or even an iPod. I have used Yahoo's Launchcast for a long time, but since they changed their formats and canned the "My Station" feature, I don't like it. I bought Muzee for myself on a whim to broaden my music listening options, and I just love it. It's simple to use and there are so many stations - you can hunt up stations by genre, region, or enter a specific search word.

If you're up on all the latest and greatest music tools and personal gadgets, maybe Muzee is not going to be a nifty thing for you. But for a simple living, technically stunted woman like me, it's really cool.

I cannot rave more about how awesome this product is and must be tried out to believe. There is so many music stations to choose from to listen to. Regardless of what music style you like or from whatever country it is sure to be here and the best part you can save to your hard drive in WMA (Windows Media) format and then transfer/convert however you like. Beats paying $15 a month for XM or Sirius and with more options and portability! There are no fees after you buy this product. That means no activation fees and no monthly fees. Virtually a plug and play product extremely easy to learn, within a few very simple steps you will be up and running. Take it wherever you go, laptop or desktop. It fits on a keychain!

Review - short version for the busy generation: Yes, having thousands of free internet radio stations is cool! But no, you do not need to pay a single penny for it!

And here is the long version:

Ok, I completely agree: 13,000 radio channels for free, everywhere, anywhere - and even a possibility to download radio contents to your computer - that cannot be bad, or? And no, it is not bad. BUT: What would you say if you could have all of that COMPLETELY FREE, not even paying the twenty bucks for this USB stick?

Well, the good news are: you can have exactly that! Just go to one of the websites like [...], download the software for free and listen to thousands of radio channels. And if you absolutely, inevitably need this internet radio on a stick to take it with you, you will still save many bucks by just buying a small USB flash drive and taking the software with you on that.

SO WHY ON EARTH SHOULD ANYBODY BUY THIS PRODUCT?

Let me tell you why: Somewhere out there somebody is making a fortune from people that have not been aware that internet radio is already free and can already be accessed centrally without any extra computer gadget. And if you still press the "Buy now" button in a second, you make those people that simply steal your money, even richer.

It's not indicated in the product description that the Muzee does not work with the Mac operating system. I bought it anyway and hoped. It took some troubleshooting, but I now have it running in a virtual machine on my Mac, and it is working beautifully. I'm posting this to share the solution.

I have iMac with an Intel processor, running Snow Leopard, and Windows 7 running in a virtual machine created by Parallels. Under Windows it was as simple as plug & play, but there was a problem. The sound broke up annoyingly. I emailed Muzee support and received a prompt, personal reply addressing my problem specifically. The suggestion offered did solve the problem. I reported that and received another prompt, personal email with another suggestion. That didn't work either.

When I bought the Muzee I also bought one for my son, who is an IT guy with far more knowledge of Windows than I have. He also has a Mac, and he had gotten his Muzee to work well in a virtual machine running Windows 7 created by the free Virtualbox program. Virtualbox does not install sound drivers, so he downloaded the free Realtek ac'97 audio drivers from the Realtek website [...], and installed them in the Windows 7 virtual machine. He solved my problem by installing the Realtek ac'97 audio drivers in my computer's virtual machine. I assume that the audio drivers installed by Parallels were the source of the problem.

One more thing: The product package says "Instant access through your PC to over 13,000 radio stations worldwide!" Thinking that the Muzee works as a portal to the stations that is maintained by Muzee, I asked about this and was told that regarding the number of stations "it was labeled when the product is delivered. As time goes by, the number of collected stations increases too. And you can always have the most up-to-date stations no matter when you bought it." The Muzee website [...] now says that 20,000 thousand stations can be accessed! I received this from Muzee product support: "Currently it's announced that we have 20,000 radio stations. Some of them could be duplicates, or a station could have many different bitrate channels."

I am delighted with the Muzee. Great selection and sound, and price. One reviewer questioned why anyone would want to buy this device when you can access the same streams from the stations' individual websites. To compile links for even a fraction of those available on the Muzee could be very time consuming, not to mention finding content you want and overcoming limitations with languages. Example, one of my favorites is a classical station from China. I've gone to their website and have no clue what link streams the station. As I write this the Muzee lists over 400 classical stations. It is so easy to explore and compile a favorites list.

UPDATE: I've installed two updates of Parallels and that program's Tools. Audio performance with the Muzee was still not up to par, so I simply reinstalled the Realtek ac'97 audio drivers. - Muzee - Internet Radio - Usb Radio - Radio'

Reconditioned Tools - floor nailer, cleat nailer

I am a do-it-yourselfer who decided to put hardwood flooring in the living and dining rooms. Point one, I way underestimated how long it would take. I rented an air compressor and air assisted nailer from Home Depot for a total of $95 for one day and was disappointed in how little progress I made (it goes slower than you think).

For the price of renting a nailer for one day this side nailer is yours to keep forever, which means take as long as you want and don't worry about getting back to the rental store on time. Generally speaking a factory reconditioned unit is given a good quality check before it is released and I had only one problem with this tool and it was one I caused myself by double nailing in the same hole that caused a nail to jam in the chute. The plate and spring mechanism was easily taken apart, jam cleared and back to work. The jamming was my fault. The gun works smoothly, it comes with a hammer. There was one small nick on the one I received indicating it was previously used but at the price comparison of recon vs. new that was not an issue. Even if you are not sure what you are going to do with a side nailer in your tool collection after you have finished the flooring job, the price of buying factory recon vs. rental makes it worth while. Factory-Reconditioned Bostitch U/MFN200 Manual Flooring Cleat Nailer Kit

This item looked and performed like a brand new one. We had no problems using it. The metal side of the mallet is angled so that it is easy to tap the board into place without damaging the face. Hitting the plunger both drives a cleat and snugs the board up to the previous row. Even slightly curved boards straighten up without prying if you use a firm swing.

We installed about 1100 square foot of 3/4" cypress tongue and groove on our floor. This item was indispensable. We used cleats that we picked up at lowes for about $15 a box. We used 3 1/2 boxes of FLN200 qty 1000, placing a cleat at least every 8".

If you pull out the cleat feeder bar at the back of the tool, you an use the tool on the second row from the starting wall. (5.25 inch boards) The cleats are heavy enough to feed themselves. Because of the space needed to swing the mallet, I had to use a regular hammer and nails starting at the 2nd to last row.

The tool is symmetrical, so it works just as easily for lefties.

If you don't have the money for a pneumatic nailer, this is the way to go. I bought my tool new, but I've purchased reconditioned tools from Amazon and been very satisfied with the tool and the price. Far cheaper than renting (unless you have a very small job), and if your local rental place has a well-used tool this will work far better. One caveat: you have to be able to hit this thing HARD for it to work. Think about it- you're driving a spike flush with only one blow. That requires a certain amount of accuracy and a fair amount of force. And you have to be able to do it over, and over, and over ..... and over! Out in the open floor it's not bad, but working in close quarters or at a funny angle can be a challenge. And trying to hammer in a partly sunk asymetrical spike can be a nightmare. So, if you have some experience, a fair amount of upper body strength, and a willingness to break a sweat this is your tool. The rest of you may want to consider the merits of a pneumatic tool, or professional installation.

It was a complete waste of money for me. I couldn't drive a single nail fully using this nailer. No matter how hard I hit with the mallet, it never sets the nail in completely.

After trying it for couple of hours, decided to give up. I ended up renting a pneumatic nailer and compressor from the local rental place and that worked like a charm and was able to finish my floor installation very quickly.

I thought I was getting a bargain, but ended up with a $100 tool which doesn't work. I don't think I can return it, since it is past 30 days period.

Update (10/10): Customer service contacted me and let return the tool for full refund(even though it is past 30 days). Very impressed with the customer service quality.

The tolerances are too lose. Failing 20%. Many times it won't set the nails fully, there appears to be no adjustment(other than shiming the base). At times it drops 2 nails sending 1 almost correctly and the other thorough the corner of the board leaving it protuding half way. Not what I expect of Bostitich. I would have bought a cheap air-nailer if it was half this bad. (I didn't what to carry a compressor or hear it.)

I have used 3 air-nailers. The Porter Cable was the best.

One of the other reviews stated it was hard to use because 'you have to hit all in 1 shot everytime'. No, there is a ratch system. Apparently he didn't use it.

Last year it was $150 then $129 by Dec. Now $59 ??

First of all, mad props to Tool King, who totally handled the return of this tool quickly and professionally--you guys rock.

OK, now to the tool. I own several Bostich pneumatic power tools (roof nailer, frame nailer, trim nailer) which I bought partly for the reputation and partly for the 7 year warranty. I've been happy overall with those tools so I figured I couldn't go wrong with this basic, simple, man-powered tool. I mean, this technology is about is old as it gets: only one moving part in the entire tool and you bang it with a hammer to set the nail. I mean, COME ON--how do screw that up as a tool maker?

I'll tell you how--by using cheap, low-quality steel for the firing pin--which broke within two days of buying the tool. There's a thin piece of metal that the entire tool relies on to work--and that piece of metal snapped right in two with very little use. Of course, the tool was under warranty--but the closest service center was in DEERPARK, TX--30-40 miles from downtown Houston--one of the largest cities in the country. The part costs $5, but I didn't have the time or inclination to let me job grind to a halt while I went down there and had those guys order the part, etc.--so I went straight to Home Depot, rented the EXACT same tool, sent mine back to Tool King--and ALMOST finished my job (installing 1400 s.f. of white oak flooring) before the EXACT SAME PART broke on that tool--about two rows from the finish line. So, $85 in tool rental costs and two trips to Home Depot later, my job was done the Bostich floor nailer was on its way back to Tool King.

You know, I wish the propellerheads at Bostich would read these review and take them to heart. Because to save .10 on the manufacture of this tool they cost me a lot of time--and themselves the sale of a tool. If we can put a man on the moon Bostich should be able to make a f*@%#ing manual floor nailer that doesn't break so easily. It's gonna cost them a LOT more in the long run--in returned tools & warranty repairs--not to mention lost sales from disgruntled buyers... Get a clue, Bostich. - Floor Nailer - Cleat Nailer - Cpo Bostitch - Hardwood Flooring Nailer'

Kindle Screen Protectors

When I was given a Kindle for my birthday (holy cow, best gift ever), I kept it in its plastic wrapping until I could get a screen protector for it. Call me nutty, but I've had to deal with the uphill battle of trying to get every last microscopic speck of stuff off of screens (and failing), so I didn't want to risk it.

What surprised me was the fact that Amazon didn't seem to carry a non-reflective/antiglare screen protector that was also firmer rather than a "film." I've had less than stellar experiences with thin protectors (namely, those suckers ALWAYS peel off around the edges) so I was set on getting a firmer protector. Amazon only seemed to carry the film type ones, and the reviews were (as expected) cruddy. But then, lo and behold, I saw this one from a company in Germany--more expensive, but also firmer, with an antiglare finish. No reviews, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway.

Superb! It arrived faster than quoted (I was quoted nearly a month, and it came in about a week) and was relatively easy to apply and position. I got all but a few tiny flecks off, even being OCD about it, and unlike some protectors this doesn't have a permeable gas membrane to make those "disappear." Still, that's not the product's fault.

Only reason I'm giving it four stars is the fit is just fractionally too small; that might be on purpose, to enable removal later. We're talking a space maybe the thickness of two standard paper pages on two edges, so very unnoticeable. We'll see how easily it comes off when it's time to replace it, but I think with the thickness of the protector (really nice) and the non-glare finish, I'm going to get a lot of life out of this. :) FoliX FX-ANTIREFLEX Antireflective screen protector for Amazon Kindle 3 / Kindle3, Kindle-III - Anti-glare screen protection!'

Great Camp Stove - camping stove, camping stoves

I bought this stove/grill on sale at a Target store to replace my old liquid fuel stove in time for camping season this past summer. It came with the instastart ignition although it doesn't say so in the Amazon product description. The product picture shows the little red igniter button near the center of the stove front. The grill is an excellent design option allowing for grilling steaks, hot dogs, burgers, sausages, etc., which I do frequently now. The Instastart ignition has worked flawlessly so far.

Propane bottles win hands-down over liquid fuel tanks (no more having to pump the darn thing all the time). The bottles are cheap and with normal use, last through a three-meal day, no problem! I usually get a meal or two the next day, since lunches are typically cold... sandwiches, salads, etc. Most of the time we are away from the camp site at lunch time anyway. I always bring a 'bottle-a-day plus one' to be on the safe side and usually bring a bottle or two home for the next trip (depending on the length of the outting and how much cooking). I can usually find the bottles on sale through the year for just over a buck in the 'big' department stores and load up on them. As far as I can tell, the claim of an even, continuous gas flow is true (high or low)... just like using a gas range at home. Clean up is easy and the grease trap underneath the unit catches all that fat dripping from those New York strip steaks. Two or three strip steaks will fill that grease trap reservoir to the brim, so don't forget to empty it before grilling again. The long grill burner also heats that 10 or 12 inch fry pan across the bottom quickly for bacon, eggs, etc. The grill itself will take some scrubbing when you get home if you have been grilling steaks.

If you're looking to replace that old liquid fuel stove, do yourself a favor and get this unit, you won't be sorry. Coleman PerfectFlow Insta Start Grill Stove

I was a little hesitant to buy this grill, but I was proven wrong. This is grill is great. I made hamburgers and was dreading the clean-up and boy was I suprised at how easy it was to clean. I just wiped the bottom out with paper towel and that was it. The grill cooks evenly and quickly. I am so excited to go camping next year.

The grill (or at least the one I have) seems to only be adjustable in a small range right near the turn off point for the propane. Beyond that it just stays at full for probably 7/8 of the dial. With a fine touch you can get it to the flame level you desire though.

And that's what I use this Coleman Stove/Grill for, an "Outdoor Kitchen Combo". I tried to purchase this several times from Amazon and when they lowered the price, I was on the road and couldn't place the order. Then when I was able to order it the price went back to $99.99. So, I went to Target and picked it up for $89.99, and today I notice Amazon has it for less than $88.00 :-) Regardless, wherever you purchase it from, this stove/grill is the BEST! I've had it a week now, and I've used it everyday approximately 2x a day. I'm a fulltime RVer, and its too HOT to heat up a kitchen to make breakfast and dinner, so I've used this for cooking 2 meals a day for the last week. I LOVE the INSTASTART function, and it works on the first try, and the flame is even all the way around on both burners and cooks evenly. I noticed that there were two "Red" models made, starting in 2008, and I picked up the one made in 2009 which is Model Number 2000003733, which appears to be the one on this site. But the other red one had a model number starting with a number 4 I believe if you decide to buy one elsewhere. Afte a week, I'm still on my original propane bottle, and I make coffee twice a day too in addition to the meals. I basically store paper plates/utensils and everything I need to cook outside except the food and clean up is a breeze! I keep foil on the bottom of the stove just in case, but its so easy to clean up. I purchased the separate "Griddle" too and I use that for pancakes, eggs etc. The griddle unfortunately is a little taller than the "grill" insert, so you can't close the top with the griddle insert inside. I keep the griddle insert inside of a laptop neoprene sleeve that I purchased from Target this week for $5.00. I also purchased the travel/storage bag for the entire grill/stove which fits just fine and holds the extra griddle too. Also, this unit has a 5 year warranty, which is 2 more years than Coleman's regular 2 burner stoves. Also, what I really LIKE about the Grill function is that you don't have those big flareups like with regular charcoal and propane grills, and you don't have dripping all over the ground or table where it is sitting. I love this grill/stove. Thank you Coleman! I recommend this purchase!

I've had this grill for several years now (I bought it when Coleman was still making it in the red color,) and absolutely love it. My family is small (2 adults, 1 child,) so the small grilling surface size has not been a problem for us. We've cooked steaks, burgers, hot dogs, sausages, and fish on it. All were cooked in a reasonable amount of time. Now that the grill is older, my instastart isn't quite as instant as it was in the beginning, but I'm still satisfied that it works as it should. 90% of the time it requires only one button press to ignite. Boiling water will take you a little extra time (this is not a JetBoil, afterall,) but keeping the wind screens up and cooking all the food at once seems to help. I bought the griddle that goes with it so we can also make pancakes, french toast, and eggs. One reviewer commented on the difficulty of making low adjustments to the flame without shutting the grill off entirely. It is tricky at first, but with a light touch and a little patience you can learn where the "sweet spot" is on the dials for low flame. The propane connector fits nicely under the grill for storage and clean up is no different than any other portable grill. By the end our camping trips, it's usually quite sloppy and ready for a good cleaning at home. I like the under-the-unit grease catcher; that helps to keep home clean up a little less messy. Overall, this has been a great addition to our camping trips. We recently upgraded from a tent to a popup and I wondered if I would need my little grill with all the extras that came with my new pup. I'm so glad I didn't leave it behind on our first trip this season. A camp stove inside a pup is a nice luxury on a rainy day, but nothing beats grilling and cooking outside under the trees. This little grill/stove is a winner. - Grill - Camping Stoves - Camping Stove - Camping'
