I was pleased with this product as soon as my daughter put it on her Iphone, but I knew it was a great product when in an emotional moment, she flung it across our concrete driveway, sending it cartwheeling into the flower bed on the other side! I just knew the screen would be cracked or the case would fly off. She does have a screen protector, but there also was not a scratch on the case either! This was money well spent. Speck Products IPH3G-CNDY-A04A0 CandyShell Case for iPhone 3G, 3G S (Moonsicle White) - Limited Edition Color
This is my second Speck Candyshell case and that is only because I am a phone dropper. Not just a drop here or there, but constant falls onto concrete, asphault...you name it. I even dropped my phone in a fast food lane as my spouse and I changed driving and I left it there in the snow for 45 minutes until I discovered it was missing. I drove back and it was still sitting there on the snowy asphault, slight scrape on the screen protector but no other damage! I estimate my first candyshell survived no less than 7 drops of 3 feet or more onto hard surfaces. The final drop finally broke the thinnest part of the case, near the charging port, but it is still perfectly usable. More importantly, my iPhone 3GS still is as pristine as the day I bought it. No case rubs or scuffs, nothing. I do recommend using a good screen protector in combination with any case you buy though as evidenced by my fast food lane debacle.
Anyone not familiar with the Candyshell, it is a hard plastic exterior with a soft rubber lined interior and matching rubber accents and button covers. It is close to indestructible but only adds a slight heft to your phone. I own a bunch of the tough cases such as the Incipio, but nothing beats a Candyshell for form and function in my opinion.
i just bought this case to replace my last candyshell. I dropped my phone 3 times, on a hard floor (target and grocery store) and all 3 times my phone was protected due to the awesomeness of this case!
the case did break however, but thats its job..to protect my phone!
I purchased this case ten months ago to replace the silicone case I purchased with the phone. I was looking for a case which would not pull the pocket out of my pants every time I needed to use the phone. I did want it to have and area on the case that did have the pants-clinging silicone so it would not slide around on the dashboard of a car (and out the window) or my desk. This case should be able to withstand a small drop, provide easy access to the buttons, and not cover the front of the phone. Oh and it would be nice if it came with a new screen protector.
Speck hit all the marks and then some. They line the inside of the case with silicone which provides additional fall protection to the hard shell while causing the phone to stick firmly to the case itself. By extending the silicone past the shell they have made a lip that surrounds the front of the phone and prevents it from moving on surfaces. The fit is snug; in fact one of the downsides is getting the darn thing on and off (I will get back to why I had to do this). It's a good looking case, albeit the surface of the case gets pretty scuffed up (no surprise). I have dropped it twice and my phone and case survived. Screen protector and fancy dusting cloth included.
Of course, nothing is perfect. When I first purchased it I was afraid to shove my phone into it. In retrospect I should have stretched it out a bit. If you look at Amazon's picture you can see little grey dashes on each of the four corners of the case. These are breaks in the hardshell allow the silicone to be used as a stretching point to get the case on and off your phone. Brand new these corners are still pretty stiff. Give them a little stretching first and all should be fine. Also, the dual-layer protection makes this case bulkier than some other cases. Not a deal breaker for me but might be for some. The reason I have to take the case on and off is the opening to the headphone jack is too thick to allow some plugs to fully insert. That's a pain. After ten months the plastic bridge on the bottom lip of the phone split and has fallen off. This does not compromise the protection much but really detracts from the aesthetics.
In the beginning I kept forgetting to lay the phone on its face (counterintuitive). No big deal it just takes getting used to. Also the push buttons are covered by the silicone. You need to play a little bit with how hard to press these before it becomes second nature. Overall this case has been fantastic! Good build quality and it fit my needs.
I really did love this case. It's perfect for great protection, but not taking away from the aesthetics of the phone.
However after having it for 2 weeks, I went to take it off to clean my phone and the bottom corners both ripped. The rubber in the corners could have been defective, but I've read reviews discussing this same issue.
I would like to try this case again sometime soon, as I know it's a wonderful case and I loved having it, but I'm not ready to have another one ripped quite yet. - Iphone Case - Candyshell - Iphone 3gs Case - Iphone'
