I don't generally review products but I feel this is a great buy for the money. I had been looking for a lens hood for my Canon EF 28-135mm lens that came with my 50D lens kit and it didn't come with a lens hood as my previous camera setup came with hoods for the lenses..I dunno why Canon does that..I thought the price of the Canon lens hood was a little ridiculous as I am only a beginner photographer at best and am on a budget. I read the reviews on this product and for the price said what the heck. When I received it it came packaged just fine and once I got it opened I installed it on my lens and it works great. I haven't had any issues to this day with this lens hood. I would recommend it to anyone before spending the money on the more expensive canon lens hood for this lens, unless money is no object to you. Fotodiox Dedicated (Bayonet) Lens Hood, for Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens as Canon EW-78BII, EW-78 BII, EW-78B II
This is a great replacement lens hood maker for Canon. The products are cheap, they fit their target lenses perfectly and stay in place, and are matt plastic on the inside (but not felt-lined - no Fotodiox hood for Canon has felt). Well worth the piddling amount of money you'll spend on it.
Works great. feels solid, and does what its supposed to do. It'll protect your lens from accidental bumps, and It removes stray light well. Why would you pay 30$ for the "Official" Canon brand one, when you can get this for around 5$ + shipping. It does just a good of job, and is a fraction of the price of the name brand. If you need a lens hood for your 28-135, just buy this.
As described, easy to mount on the lens. My biggest issue with this is that when you mount it reversed (not in use), it gets in the way of using zoom on my canon 28-135mm. The angle it mounts on the lens block's my usual angle of utilizing the zoom. I pretty much have to reach around to adjust telephoto. I do not know if the canon version mounts the same but it's a bad design. Otherwise it makes your lens look bulky and intimidating in a good way. Does the job, I think.
I find myself taking pictures against the sunlight half of the time now since I discovered my pictures have much better impact if done right...Once in a while, sunlight gets in and created unwanted effects so I thought I'd need a lens hood. I didn't really want to spend a whole lot on a hood since I may upgrade to another lens within a year or so.
I received the hood today...delivery took a week which is on the slow side for Amazon but otherwise the hood arrived in perfect condition. The hood is just as pictured, is made out of plastic and is solid. There is no felt on the inside but surface has a rough pattern that appears flat and non-reflecting.
It positively snaps on the lens. The fit is good - no wiggling. The hood can also be mounted on the lens backwards for transport.
This hood looks identical to the Canon OEM hood so I don't see why it wouldn't work. I will give it a workout and report back.
I ordered the Fotodiox EW78B-II equivalent to outfit my Canon 28-135mm with the lens hood that *should* have been provided by the manufacturer. Like the other reviewers, I was of course skeptical of the quality of product I would receive for such a small amount of money. I am extremely pleased to say that both the build and fit of the hood is excellent. Although the inner surface of the hood is not flocked [felt lined] like the OE version, it is nicely textured which should help to diffuse any stray light that might attempt to bounce into the lens. Overall, the cost-benefit ratio for this hood is skewed entirely in Fotodiox's favor. I typically like to own OE accessories, however in this instance I honestly cannot imagine why someone would pay 600% more to purchase the OE hood over this version. Highly Recommended.
This lens hood is amazing! Why on earth would you want to spend 10x the money for a factory canon one, when you can buy this??! Fit to the lens is solid and positive, materials are good, even has the markings to make it look authentic canon. The only thing it doesn't have that the factory canon one does, is the felt lining on the inside of the petals...not a big issue. This one has a textured surface on the inside which functions in the same way as the felt on the factory lens hood, and the nice thing is that it won't rub off! There are no Con's to this accessory at all. - Photography - Canon - Lens Accessories - 28-135mm'
