I bought this case last week, and within the 7 days I've had it, it has totally failed.
It's extremely cheap, the paint job isn't complete, there are unpainted areas on the edges of the case. The rubberized finish started peeling off within the first two days of using the case.
The greatest insult of all was when upon dropping the phone within the case from a height of three feet, the front of the case snapped off, and the small plastic clips that keep it secure broke, making the case completely unusable.
I'm glad I had the case to protect the phone from that one drop, but I'm not in the mood to buy a new case each and every time I drop by phone.
Quite the bummer. Motorola Droid 2 A955 Rubberized Blue Premium Phone Protector Hard Cover Case + Screen Protector w/small microfiber cloth
Being that the Droid 2 was brand new when I was looking for a case, there weren't that many cases available at the time. Once Seido releases a cover for the Droid 2 I will probably buy one, but I purchased this case just to have something to protect my phone for the short term. The first case I received had a manufactureing defect (one of the "hooks" did not catch underneath the phone) and the top cover would not stay on the phone. Happily the seller promptly sent a replacement that works very well. The cover fits snugly and doesn't feel like its going to fall off on it's own. The two peice cover interferes with the phone a very tiny amount which gives just a small amount of resistance when sliding the keypad out, but not enought to be objectionable. In fact I thought the keypad moved a bit too easy without the cover in place so I like the feel with the cover on. I wouldn't call the surface "rubberized" it's more of a satin finish plastic that actually feels nice in the hand and definately won't pick up any lint while riding around in your pocket. For the $8 I paid, I think that it's a good case. Especially since it's protecting a phone that's worth a bit more than that...
This item seems to be hit or miss as to whether you get a good one. In my case, I got my girlfriend a bad one. It does NOT look exactly like the picture. The picture doesn't show a little hole in the back, but hers has one.
My girlfriend bought this one. Hers DOES have the little hole, has rough edges, and does NOT fit in any of the bases. Hers seemed to be provided by "SF Planet".
I bought a green one with the exact same description (except for the "green" part). Mine does NOT have a little hold in the back, has smooth edges, and fits fine in the Motorola base and car mount. Mine seemed to be provided by "BargainCell".
It sure would be nice if the product provided was consistent.
After reading the negative reviews about this case, I was hesitant to purchase, but figured three dollars wasn't bad. I originally bought a case from VZW, unable at the time to find a decent case elsewhere. That case worked just fine until I dropped my phone for the first (and only) time. As with ANY case for slider phones, one of the clips that holds the case on the phone broke, leaving me hunting for a new case. I refused to go drop another $20 at VZW, hoping to find something comparable for a lesser price.
You get what you pay for; When I first installed this case, the case fit a tad large, and made sliding the keyboard out quite difficult. I'm handy with XACTO knives, so after five minutes of some trimming/shaving, the case ended up fitting a lot better than the VZW case, and interference in sliding the keyboard out was gone. As for the 'flimsy-ness' of the material, the case I recieved was made from the same plastic the VZW case was made of, so I would expect it to have the same duration as the VZW case. The 'rubberized' grip isn't rubber, but just a textured finish that feels as though the case is rubber. I do like the feel of it, and it makes gripping my Droid easier. After a month, my finish hasn't started to peel, fade, or show any signs of wear. I keep mine in my pocket for most of the day, so let that be a gauge for you if it helps.
Regarding reviews on broken cases; Anyone who thinks you can find a case for a slide phone that will withstand impact upon a fall, even from small heights, is up in the clouds. With measurements in the fractions of millimeters, even kevlar clips wouldn't hold upon an impact. Dropping your phone, even one time, has the potential to damage a phone or any case you have attached to it. The engineers who design small electronic devices do take shock into consideration when designing products, but they cannot engineer such small electronic devices to withstand trainwrecks for only a couple hundred bucks. Now, imagine how worried case makers are in that aspect. Do you honestly think that a company would waste thousands upon thousands of dollars on R&D for a shatterproof case, when they only charge five bucks for it?! Like I said in the title, you get what you pay for, and for five bucks, this phone case is great. If you're in the market for a shatterproof case (because you abuse your phone), then this one isn't for you. To my knowledge, if you use your keyboard on your Droid, then there's not a case available to you that will protect your phone 100% from falls. If you don't use your keyboard, then go for a silicone case that covers the entire phone, with no split allowing access to the keyboard.
The only reason I didn't give five stars was because I had to trim the case a bit before it fit well, but other than that, it has met all of my other expectations. - Droid 2 - Blue Case - Motorola Case'
