Buy it because...
.
1-It lasts longer
2-Protects the camera lens
3-Feels right in your hand
4-Improves phone balance when supported by leg.
5-It's half the price of other batteries.
In summary, this battery is a great value.
IMPORTANT TIP ---> TO GET THE MOST LIFE between charges,
perform this sequence to "stretch" the battery capacity to its limit:
1-with phone turned on, charge it fully till green light comes up
---> note: you will be without phone service until next steps are finished, at most 1 hour
2-turn phone off while still plugged to charger (light will turn off briefly, then come back amber)
3-let it charge again till light turns green
4-unplug charger and wait for light to go off
5-then plug it again - light will be amber
6-let it charge again till light turns green
7-repeat 4-5-6 till green light comes up just a few seconds after plugging charger (time in 6 will be progressively shorter)
8-turn phone on
9-unplug charger
10-enjoy!
With this procedure my battery life went from a few hours on the original battery to SEVERAL DAYS on this new Acase (when also following next tips)
MORE TIPS to extend life:
turn off 4G - I live in a area with coverage and it still drains my battery.
use wifi wherever available
turn off GPS antenna if not in use.
be suspicious of badly design apps that can be battery hogs. Acase 3500 mAh Extended Life Battery + Cover for HTC EVO 4G (Black)
Let me start by saying how INSANE the "thinness" trend is. Apple started it, so everyone blindly followed. Why do I need a paper-thin device at the sacrifice of performance? The Evo is a much larger screen than previous phones, requiring more battery and power, but they gave it the same processor and battery! In fact, these paper thin devices are HARDER to hold and less ergonomic. As you hold a handheld device by the sides, your hand curves in a semicircle. So, I have always wished the Evo had more of a bulkier back.
That is the first thing this battery and cover achieve. The back is a better ergonomic design and is more comfortable in the hand. The only minor downside is the plastic is quite slippery, compared to the ZAGG Invisible shield I had had on my original battery cover.
The case is good-looking, unlike the Seidio Innocell 3500 mAh Extended-Life Battery for HTC EVO 4G (Black). It will not win a fashion award, but it has a nice, clean and curved look. The case is not perfectly flush, but attaches very well. The first time taking it off, it was very difficult, but has since become about the same difficulty as the original one.
The price is also right, at less than half the cost of the Seidio battery!
Finally, the performance. I have had this about a week. I am very battery-conscious, and had all syncing turned off except for weather. I downloaded a battery indicator app about a month ago which shows the exact percentage of battery. I noticed that if the screen was turned off for hours, I would lose 0% of battery. But, as soon as I turned the screen on, it would drop rapidly, about 1% per minute even if I was just leaving the Evo on the table with the home screen showing! My battery must have gotten way worse since I bought it last July, because I had never noticed it drop this rapidly before.
As soon as I put in this battery, I noticed a drastic difference. Doing the same thing as before (idle home screen), it took more like 5 minutes to drop 1%. I had a huge gaming session of Zenonia the other day when I woke up at about 11am after an overnight charge - About 3 hours of playing, with automatic brightness in a sunny room, and the music player going in the background. Was pleasantly surprised to see it at somewhere near 65%, whereas my original battery would be completely dead. I continued with normal usage the rest of the day, maybe 50 texts, browsing the web probably an hour total, checking email a few times, maybe a little more music/gaming and made it until 1am before I got the 5% warning.
All in all, what have you got to lose for such a great price! I would say it lasts about twice as long as the original, which is expected. It is much more attractive-looking than other battery cases, and fits more comfortably in the hand than the original case. I will hopefully update this review later, as other posters noted this battery gets better after a number of charges, supposedly!
EDIT: A battery kill test to help solve the debate about this battery - All wireless communication on, live wallpaper, maximum brightness, all accounts syncing at smallest intervals, while playing an HD/3D graphics intensive game such as "Let's Golf" while playing music off my SD card.
Coming soon... this should be fun :D
Followed the advice to charge it longer than the "fully charged" light indicates and the battery works beautifully. Not as bulky as I thought it would be -- it's no big deal. And the trade off for me is a minimum twice the battery life (if I'm shooting and uploading a lot of pictures -- which I do a lot), but more often 3 or 4 times the battery life of the original EVO battery. So glad I found this. - Htc Evo 4g - Evo 4g - Htc - Battery'
