Dvd Writer - ripoff, cheat

I have the HP 110. I didn't do much with the little thing because it didn't have Word. I had the Word disc and more downloads. This drive came, it's plug and play, instantly I had Word and my Netbook ROCKS! Saved me a lot of money buying a Word download and then other things I need for my work to be compatible with a differnt version of Word. Recently, I burned some pix & video to a CD on it for a friend. It doesn't burn DVDs for DVD players, but DVDs for computers yes. Anyway, I had debated just getting the cheap CD reader version to just load Word but sprung for this version. Glad I did. It's a really helpful little driver. I paid 10 dollars for 2 days shipping because I NEEDED this product by a certain time. I got it, hooked it up to my computer, the computer recognized that there was a drive, but the drive can't read the discs, including the driver disc that came with the product. It is a defective unit, and I am very unhappy. Do not buy this product. It is a knock off, the user manual doesn't even have correct grammar. Blatantly made in Hong Kong and it looks like it.

I plugged this in and put a dvd in and tried to play it... windows media player said i needed a dvd codec so i put in the supplied cd... it had power dvd on it but after numerous attempts it would not install, i looked at the windows website and you had to buy any codec softwares on their site so i was worried.. but the i googled free decryptor plug in and got one on the first try that works great, other than that this drive is great so far

I bought this for an unusual reason. I build and repair PCs and I was in immediate need of a standard SATA slimline bare DVD drive, and none were to be had either locally or on Amazon, at least for a reasonable price.

So, I ordered this generic external USB unit. When it arrived, I simply popped open the snap-apart case with a thin blade, removed the USB-SATA adapter board (two small screws), and voila, there I had my bare SATA slimline drive.

The best part of this package is the excellent value it represents. If you actually go to buy a bare drive and a USB enclosure kit separately, they can total over $50. This package contains both and sells for around $31. Amazing. I plan to buy more.

Before I took it apart, I did check to make sure that it worked on USB, which it did, perfectly, no drivers needed. For all the folks having trouble with it here, I will remind them that it comes with two USB cables, one for signal (and some power) and one to supply some extra power. The extra power cable is not really optional! You need to use BOTH CABLES, plugged into TWO SEPARATE USB ports. The USB signal cable alone will usually not have enough juice to run the drive, even if it is recognized and appears at first to work. If you try to cheat and plug the two cables into a USB hub, it must be a POWERED hub, meaning it has its own separate AC power supply. The little passive hubs often carried with laptops won't do the job. It's also possible that some laptop USB ports are underpowered and simply won't power this drive. The drive itself is probably not defective!

This drive should work with any computer that has two USB ports. It is not limited to the list of HP laptops in the description, that is just done for marketing and searching reasons. The internal drive itself in the unit I received is an HP-branded OEM drive. - Ripoff - Cheat - External Dvd Burner - Dvd Writer'
