After being completely frustrated with one set of headphones after another, I finally spent what was, to me, a goodly amount for a good gaming set. Of course, the dual connectors didn't play well the with various phones I have, so I was expecting to have to shell out even more for another set.
Now, instead of spending way too much, I spent under $15 and get to multi-use the headphones I like on 'puters and phones. A good deal all around. Headset Buddy 01-PC35-PH25 PC Headset To Phone Adapter Dual 3.5mm To 2.5mm Kit
I have many phone meetings during the week, and I wanted to use my PC head set on my office phone, this converter was exactly what I wanted, to listen the conversation in both speakers and to be able to talk with the headset's mic. The females connectors are 3.5 (standard ones) and the male connector is 2.5 mm (kinda little one), just what I wanted ;)
I have been having trouble switching between PC headsets, my IPhone headset, and a 2.5mm headset for using with cordless phones when I have conference calls. With this product, I can use all three easily. Good little adapter set.
This "Headset Buddy" combo pack works exactly as needed. I've confirmed that stereo music plays on the headphones, and I used the Skype "echo" service to confirm that the microphone (and headphones) work as well.
My need for this adapter kit stems from the fact that I use a stereo headset (stereo headphones & microphone) with Skype for phone calls. My previous laptop had two 3.5mm headphone jacks and a single 3.5mm microphone jack (3.5mm is the most common size of connector for headphones---laptop, mp3 player, etc). However, my new laptop has a single 3.5mm headset jack that's supposed to do it all. Strangely enough, I couldn't find a new headset with that type of connector; they're all either the 2-plug type, have a single/mono headphone, or are USB.
With this product, I can now use my existing headset with my new laptop, but I have to use both cables that come in the package. I plug both of my headset's 3.5mm plugs into the green (headphone) and pink (microphone) connectors. Since the other end of that cable is a 2.5mm plug, I then use the other cable to switch back to having a 3.5mm plug. That plugs into my laptop, and my stereo headset works as expected.
It works with my Treo 680, my wife's Pantech Breeze, the Itouch, my cordless phones, my PCs etc ..... It does it's job. My only problem and it isn't with the product but the multitude of shippers is that I paid almost as much in shipping as I did to buy it. I had 1 order and it was split between 3 vendors. I know, this is how it works but it rubs me raw ans sticks in my craw.
I'll get the negative stuff out of the way quickly. Going in, I thought the product was overpriced. After all it is a basic wire with basic connectors. Wanting to tidy up my desk, I sucked it up and bought. Honestly, I would have rated the product a lot higher if the packaging weren't so shoddy. The printed insert was barely legible because the printing was so badly blurred. The connector was a little too big for my phone. I shaved it down with a bastard file. It now works as I expected. What would be even better is if I could keep my headset plugged into to my computer and phone at the same time. Switching is easy, but it would approach perfection if switching wasn't necessary.
the product isn't totally completely clear from the description and i thought this was a PC > 3.5mm main cord that i could use for my smartphone (a blackberry) and then would have an extra little single adapter for changing any old 2.5mm phone headsets to 3.5mm. neat. otherwise why would i buy this combo pack? if i was only looking to go from PC to 3.5mm i'd just buy that cord alone which is $1 less and doesn't require my connecting 3 cords together like this one does.
and as you can guess this is in fact just a PC > 2.5mm converter (which you can also get that sells alone for $4 less, so if you want that buy that) plus an adapter to then convert that 2.5mm ending to a 3.5mm one that then goes into your smartphone. but if you want a PC > 3.5mm converter (which sells alone for $1 less) buy that, not this (and it also requires one fewer connection as mentioned). this doesn't have any use if your primary interest is the 3.5mm opening in your smartphone (blackberry, iphone, etc.). - Headphone Adapter - Headset Adapter - Adapter For Cell Phone - Headset'
