This remote is way better than I expected. I thought it would only work with Windows Media Center but it also works with GOM Player. I can pause, forward, rewind my videos, etc. This is besides the fact that I can use it as a mouse while I am sitting down far away from the computer and I can manuever to anywhere on the computer I need to go. Great remote and good price. I will buy more of these remotes. Windows Vista Certified Media Center MCE Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Vista Ultimate
Absolutely perfect. It is running in an old Dell desktop that I stuck a Hauppage receiver card in. Card's IR failed to recognize channel numbers and some other IR signals. The Microsoft unit fixed it all.
I ordered this item Sunday night, Monday I got the confirmation email, Wednesday the product arrived. This was with "standard shipping" - I was expecting it to take at least a week if not more. Talk about quick service!
As far as the product itself is concerned, everything works as advertised. Plugged in the remote receiver, Vista detected it, installed drivers automatically (I was concerned since the packaging contained no software, no worries its driver is already built into Vista). All the functions on the remote worked first try.
I would highly recommend both this product and this company if you want a functional remote for Vista's Media Center.
Thanks again!
Larry
I ended up getting the media center keyboard shortly after purchasing this. I was concerned that it would have the same issues regarding the trouble I was having programming the remote to work with other components. The remote functions well enough in the media center environment but is basically as useful as a brick for anything else. My kid plays with it now as I find my self using the media center keyboard instead. The media center keyboard is amazingly easy to program. You need to get this product regardless for the rf adapter
This review may not be entirely helpful for those looking to use it as it is intended. However, I purchased the item for a piece of it's functionality and to use with XBMC and not MCE. The remote looks good but I'm not using it. I am currently only using the IR dongle that is supplied along with a Logitech Harmony One and EventGhost 0.3.7.r1262 and XBMC Camelot. I installed the IR dongle on a PC using XP MCE 2002 SP3. Of course the generic driver for this is in Vista and not in XP. But, with some modifying of the IRBUS.inf file in XP and using EventGhost, you can map the MCE remote keys and still use it or, like myself, a Harmony remote. So, this may not be a helpful review for Vista users but hopefully helps out XP users
I have Vista with MCE, but no tuner. I still enjoy watching movies and internet tv on my pc from my couch, and didn't enjoy getting up to the computer everytime I needed to change the volume, etc. I can do all that from my couch now with this remote. Would be nice if it was compatible with my other media players on my pc, but I can't complain. This fits my needs.
I use this daily with my computer. It works wonderfully with Vista's Media Center. All functions needed to power on the computer, watch a movie, surf the web, listen to the radio, and more. Anyone using Media Center needs this remote!
I'm getting a new remote. This one is far too frustrating. The remote sensor has a red LED that lights when it receives a keypress. And even though the LED lights, some of the time the key press does not work.
No Drivers install..
works perfects with Windows Media Center..
the batery works for about 6 months or more maybe..
exelent reception..
the receptor is very small very simple...
no pair needed to use..
and very pretty box.
Pros: The remote works fine. Windows Media Center is pretty convenient for watching videos and movies. I have my computer hooked up to my TV and the interface works well for the TV. The build quality is decent and it looks nice enough.
Cons: Rewind/Forward buttons don't work for most of my videos. Apparently, Media Center can't do that with the most popular video formats i.e. DivX and Xvid. So, the remote loses half it's usefulness for me right there. This isn't exactly a shortcoming of the remote, but still relevant. So, if you're like me and have a ton of DivX/Xvid movies, you might want to keep this in mind. - Xbmc - Remote Control - Ir - Windows Vista'
