I read the other reviews... I guess I didn't know it was supposed to have a kickstand feature... I'm not sure what I'd use that for anyway.
I think this shell/holster is great. I've always had leather holsters, and this looks much better. As for the complaint about protection, yes, it's not really considered protection. Actually, as the other person said, it will protect the backside of the phone pretty good, but not the corners on the frontside. That doesn't concern me much, because the grip of it is fantastic. Without being sticky like silicone, the small ridge pattern on it, with the slight rubberization make it very secure. So, I suppose in a way, it is considered protection, because you are less likely to drop it.
I like the openings for the phone features. It actually makes it easier for me to turn it on, because I not hunting around for the buttons on the side.
As for the complaint about removing it in time to answer it... absurd. I can remove it faster than from my magnetic holster.
All in all, I think this is a terrific solution for anyone that wants a carrier for their Fascinate. When I don't want to clip it, I just leave the holster part off, and slip it into my pocket. No problem with that. If you have no interest in having a belt clip, you may want to try something else.
Oh, I also purchased the Realook screen protector. It's great, but man, any dust when trying to apply it is a real hassle. Once it is on without the dust specs, perfect. People can't even tell it is on there. Superior OEM for Samsung i500 Fascinate Shell Holster Combo Pack
It's a solid, snug case. The reason for two stars is that it has now twice slipped from my belt when exiting a car. It WAS affixed properly, with the clip snug around my belt. Something about the way I had to twist in the seat. I'm writing this review not because I was looking to write a review. I got the case at the Verizon store (at about triple the price here!) because I didn't want to leave with no case. I got here searching for a new case! Until now, I didn't even know Amazon sold it.
I bought this at Verizon when I bought my phone. After four months of regular use, the clip snapped off the holster. Fortunately I was gripping the phone when this happened. Otherwise my phone would have fallen four feet to the hard wood floor. This would have proven disastrous since this case is rigid and would not have provided any impact protection. Use it at your own risk.
I liked the idea of a light weight hard shell case & holster combo for my phone. However I had 2 problems with. Sometimes when I slid the phone into the holster my jacket or shirt would get caught between the phone and the holster. If I didn't realize what had happened, and correct the problem, the phone would later pop out of the holster. Secondly, after about 2 months of use the clip on the holster broke off.
Well whatever piece is supposed to be installed in the clasp mechanism (picture the metal piece that allows you to lock a gas pump handle into the ON position) was not present on the device or in the package so I can not "convert into a kickstand" /Shrug. Other than that, the clasp stays very secure on a belt, the waist or just a pocket. The male and female portions slide easily for removal and insertion, yet stay secure enough to never have to worry about my phone falling out. I jog with this and have never had a problem. Would be 5 stars if not for the missing piece.
Well made product in terms of, I guess workmanship.
Belt clip rotates around with good tight clicking sounds, so you could put vertical or horizontal on your belt.
However,
1. Who uses the belt clip these days (hint: it's out of fashion), just paying extra for nothing. If you prefer the belt clip, good find for you.
2. Suppose you use the belt clip, taking the phone out from the belt clip shell is a bit tricky. Need a bit of force I guess... you will miss your call by the time you are able to take it out or drop your phone in the process.
3. Now the main shell case...fits nicely to your phone with right openings in place. BUT, it doesn't look as good as the picture you see if you see it up close for real. (It looks a bit silky in the picture which I thought was a nice luxurious texture, but seeing it up close, it is just jagged line protruding out finish. Makes you wonder... just smooth simple mat finish should make it much better).
4. Now above things are all fine and depending on your taste. But main turn down for me is the protection.
Shell case, at least for me, is mainly for PROTECTION of your phone.
Major flaw is the protection against the drop.
It will protect front, back, and four corners on the back side. But if your phone drops on any four corners on the front side, it's WIDE open and you got no protection.
Neverthelss, best attempt at hardshell case for Fascinate so far (9/29/2010) in my opinion...
But if you care for protection in case of dropping on the hard surface, you might be better off with cheap silicon case or ugly verizon OEM plastic/rubber case. - Galaxy - Holster - Case - Fascinate'
