False Advertising - adapter, mini displayport

Just like the adapter sold in Apple store (Moshi Mini Displayport to HDMI) that also sends audio via MDP(Mini Displayport) it causes the iMac to freeze intermittently when switching sources. This happens when the HDMI cable goes from the MDP adapter to AV receiver and then from receiver to HDTV. However, if connected from MDP adapter to HDTV directly it works just fine. This isn't ideal in a home theater environment where all the sources (HTPC, PS3, XBOX 360, etc.) are plugged into a receiver.

The packaging doesn't come with any manual but the picture in front of the box that it's housed in clearly shows how to plugin the adapter. It does show that the HDMI cable from the adapter can be connected to either an HDTV or a projector or an AV receiver. So, according to the picture I shouldn't have any issue but I am and it seems like the product wasn't fully tested.

Before I bought the Moshi adapter I bought a Monoprice MDP adapter which was advertised to send audio and it's even written on the package but the audio doesn't work and Monoprice updated their product page to note that audio in fact is not supported. This Monoprice version doesn't cause any issue with the iMac. I can switch sources all day without causing iMac to freeze. It's just too bad the audio doesn't work.

So, I ended up ordering Toslink cable to handle audio and use the Monoprice MDP adapter to handle video for now and I will be returning the Moshi and Kanex adapters.

I am curious to try the adapters on a MacBook or a MacBook Pro just to see if the same problem occurs just to rule out that our brand new iMac is free of defect. Kanex iAdapt MDPHDMIV2 HDMI V2 - Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support

I purchased this to connect my 2011 model MacBook Pro with the new thunderbolt port to my plasma TV. It works perfectly, not only delivering an incredible 1080p picture but also fantastic sound. This HDMI adapter is amazing.

I thought it was a strange decision for Apple to switch to a mini DisplayPort output on the unibody MacBook Pros, instead of HDMI video output, but this adapter remedies Apple's decision (as long as you have a MacBook Pro from 2010 or later). Before 2010, the Apple did not include audio in the mini DisplayPort output. If you have MacBook Pro from 2009 that has a mini DisplayPort output, you'll need this adapter or this adapter for 5.1 channel digital audio.

For 2010 MacBook Pros and later, the Kanex iAdapt works great. When I set mine up, the Mac automatically detected my TV. I had to make a slight adjustment in System Preferences under Display to get the display the correct size, but that just took a few seconds.

For sound, you need to go to sound under System Preferences and click on Output and select your TV. Then it works perfectly.

Thank you Kanex for making an affordable adapter that makes using the mini DisplayPort and an HDMI cable a piece of cake.

Works great considering just the image output. I tried it on a Samsung LED TV 40C6000. The image is crisp using Full HD content that is 1080p. However, I cannot say anything about the sound. Because I couldn't get it working. - Mini Displayport - Adapter - Hdmi - Macbook'
